Brad Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Anyone heard about this. Someone posted it over at AAJ Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 I thought you meant together and it gave me "the willies"! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Now I see they are together a bit on the Shank set. I'm bummed to see "Ivory Hunters" is missing from the BB box. Quote
DrJ Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Great news, seeing all that obscure Brookmeyer on the way. Toshiba just reissued IVORY HUNTERS. Maybe we'll see U.S. BN following suit soon. Quote

You know, I could have sworn I saw "Ivory Hunters" stuck in Michael's "research pile" when I was there last week. I'll see if I can find out if it's in or out. Later, Kevin Quote
mikeweil Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 I'm exited that Brookmeyer's albums "Traditionalism Revisited" and "Kansas City Revisited" will be back in print - missed them the first time around. As far as I remember, Paul Quinichette is on one of them, one of my top five tenor favourites. Quote
WD45 Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Traditionalism Revisited is available at the Graveyard Mall for $6.99. I asked for it for my birthday from the wife. I can't wait to hear it--my interest stems from the inclusion of Jimmy Giuffre. Quote
brownie Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 Re: Paul Quinichette: does anyone else dig his work on the Mel Powell Vanguard sides? I think they were a really fine combination. Clem I do. Beautiful music. Mel Powell also did a similar trio date with Ruby Braff for Vanguard. Mel Powell is another artist who needs to be reevaluated. Quote

There was an Excellent album on United Artists under Pauls leadership,, I really can't remember the Album title but there was some confusion over one tune The Holy Main or was it The Holy Man Typical Basie type group If Select can find others to couple with it, I would like to see it rise to the surface. I was able to get Andrew Hill's "Eternal Spirit" (with Greg Osby!) and Joe Lovano's "Landmarks," but the Brookmeyer was unavailable. Glad that I'll be able to get it as part of the Select! Quote
Ed S Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 I'm very happy to see these being released. I was a big fan of the West Coast Classics series and am glad that MC found a way to get this material released. Quote
