BbM7 Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Where to listen/eat/amuse one's self/shop. I'll be there for about a month (late-April - mid-May). Haven't been in a few years. Quote
kulu se mama Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 i haven't been in about 4 years, but the last time i was there the friends i was visiting took me to a record store in the building of an old grocery store. it had to be one of the largest stores i've ever visited. i'm sorry, but i can't tell you the name of it. .:.impossible Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Manifest Disc & Tape on South Blvd. Definitely hit that up. Charlotte was a nice town. Now sprawling, but you should have a good time. Go to Alexander Michael's in 3rd Ward. Paul is the hippest bartender in town. He has a jazz mix I left him a few years back. I wonder if he ever plays it, or what the hell is on it. I remember listening to Yo La Tengo, Soul Coughing, and all kinds of great music in there. Sort of a hidden place too! Find it! Quote
BbM7 Posted May 2, 2005 Author Report Posted May 2, 2005 Manifest: Closed. Sad. http://charlotte.creativeloafing.com/2004-...news_cover.html Quote
.:.impossible Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 I read this last year too. Manifest is still open, just under new ownership. I was there over Christmas and it hadn't changed a bit. Same clerks, same expansive selection, same everything. So, bad news narrowly averted! See here. Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom. The Charlotte store is now run by "Value Music." I assure you, they have done a good job of keeping the store exactly what it was. Unfortunately, no one bought the Wilmington store. I was in the neighborhood a few weeks ago and it has been converted to a mattress warehouse type of thing. Sucks now that I'm moving back! Quote
BbM7 Posted May 3, 2005 Author Report Posted May 3, 2005 Thanks Impossible. I actually went today, despite the article. (I wanted to 'be sure', though I had some concern that the place had been bought out by Media Play or some bad influence). It was/still is a pretty good store. So thanks for the tip! Quote
ADR Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 (edited) Damn - I'll have to head back over there and check it out. I read that Manifest was closing and I haven't been back since. I'm glad the store is still in operation and still apparently has such an amazing selection of jazz to choose from. ADR Edited May 3, 2005 by ADR Quote
