Hi.

Not sure how many of you know what rugby is, and this is not intended as an insult. But today Wales won the Grand slam, which is in effect to say that they are the best rugby team in Europe.

Great stuff for the Welsh who last won the championship in the late 70's, as an Englishman with Irish roots it is not easy for me to say this ;)

Great for rugby.

It's great to see all these Welsh people have something to cheer about. Wales were the best team throughout and their victory is fully deserved. As a Frenchman, it is also painful to admit it, but it is great news for the 6 nations tournament as France and England domination was too overwhelming for too long.Allez les Bleus quand meme!

Rugby?

That's the one where blokes get all muddy chasing an easter egg round a field.

[uS readers might like to know that Wales is the name of a very large car park west of Birmingham where you wait for the ferry to Ireland]

Hey, the insignificance of Wales is official. Last October the EU produced a report with a map on the cover that missed it off completely:

Now I know why I always feel so damp at the Brecon Jazz Festival.

Didn't you know? We've relocated: we're parked next to New Zealand now.

Christ! I've got to take 50 kids to Conwy in three weeks. I thought a coach would be enough. Does this mean we have to catch a plane?

(Offa would be very impressed by the size his Dyke has grown to!)

I think you are right and as an Englishman, who also lost to France and Ireland it is not easy ;)

But it is good for World Rugby and I am sure it will influence the selection of the British Lions team to play New Zealand in June.

Yes this created a great deal of angst in Wales, to know that they did not officially exist

Congratulations to Wales, I know how much they love their rugby. Nice to see them beat the Irish.

Anyway, England are still the world champions. :P

Yes and let us not forget that fact, well at least for the next 30.40 years ;)

Yes, this is fabulous.

I tried to find an online/email way to send a letter to the main Welsh paper last week wishing them luck.

And that would've been from a Kiwi resident in Australia for 18 years.

In my boyhood, playing Australia was something the All Blacks did in a really soft season. The Real Stuff was always played against South Africa, the Lions or Wales. So to see them on the outer so long was sad.

I kept on waiting for the bubble to burst but they just kept on going. I ended up very beer-ridden at an inner-city bar packed with Irish and Welsh fans in the early AM of Sunday morning for the Wales-Ireland game. What a blast!

Not just good for Wales or the Six Nations Championship, but good for rugby!

I think 'Weir' is a Scottish name and recall Doddy Weir the Scottish lock forward, who was a pretty good player in his time. I think he was a Lion's tourist in South Africa.

Well as we know the Scots are having a difficult time at present, and they lost to the English last week ;)

Hey I agree it is good fro rugby, just as it will be when the British Lions beat the All Blacks in the summer ;)

One of the consequences of the success that Wales have had, is that it puts pressure on the respective coaches. I will be very surprised if the Scottish coach, Matt Williams, does not get sacked in the next few days or weeks.

Andy Robinson, the English coach is also under pressure after the poor performance by the English.

Yup, as far as I'm aware my last name is Scottish - a now long forgotten sub-clan just south of Glasgow I think.

Lions beating All Blacks? Ha ha. Very funny. :P

Yeah the coaches thing is simply an illustration of the cyclical nature of this or any other sport. It's just that in this case it had been a long while since Wales had been a force. And - correct me if I am wrong - but the Irish, too, are enjoying a purple patch.

Makes me wonder when the tide is going to turn for the Australian cricket team , which is currently hammering the bejeeezus out of NZ in NZ.

The Australian Cricket team, is without doubt one of the most successful teams in the World of sport. But you will know that we have the Ashes tour this summer, and England are now a pretty good side.

It is one thing to beat a few sheep farmers that play cricket, another thing to beat a team that are interested more in Football and the goings on in the lives of 'Posh and Becks'.

Your first name may also be considered Scottish.

There is a very famous Scottish rugby player called 'Kenny Logan', many times an international for Scotland and I think a British Lion and he stills plays for Glasgow.

I wish it weren't so ... but the Ashes tour won't live up to expectations. In fact, it will a crashingly boring dud. Australia 5 England 0.

Kenny.

I am not sure it will be so one sided.

After victory in South Africa, the English team now have confidence and have beaten most sides, apart from Australia and you know the 'English' weather is always worth something ;)

What makes the Aussie's so good in their professionalism. no matter who they play they want to win. England are beginning to adopt this approach at last!
