I have some various short bits from Jazz à Juan with Konitz, Solal and a host of others... could you please type out the exact info for me, so I can make sure I don't spread any live stuff that's on this disc? I guess I should try and get hold of the disc myself, but not right now, spent too much again, already...

I have the vinyl original of Jazz A Juan. Here is the tracks list:

Just picked up "Martial Solal and the European All Stars" on what appears to be a French Telefunken LP (purple label, mono. Recorded in Berlin May 21, 1961. Anyone know anything about this? I haven't spun it yet.

Anyone know any of the details about Grappelli/Solal Happy Reunion due out on Sunny Side next week? Or how it compares to other Solal (or Grappelli)? According to Amazon, track listing is:

Happy Reunion was originally published on the French label Owl.

Since I'm not much of a fan of post-Quintet du Hot Club deFrance Grappelli, I bought it mostly for Solal.

I must say I found the album very worthy with Grappelli in top form. As always delighted by Solal.

In other words, very recommended!

Martial Solal / Toots Thielemans - Erato 2292-45795-2

It's a duo session that is one I have enjoyed for a number years. The 11 tracks include 7 standards, plus

"Solar" by Miles, "Waltz for Sonny" by Thielemans, "Valse a 3 temps" by Solal, and "Erato Blues" by both Solal and Toots.

Solal's coming to Madrid, piano solo, on May 19, as part of the XXII Jornadas de Jazz de la UPM, which are dedicated to Tete Montoliu as part of this years's conmemoration -10 years since he passed-.

Been on a Solal kick again ever since coming across WHEN A SOPRANO MEETS A PIANO while putting together an Americans-in-France show (many thanks to Brownie!). Ordered COMP. VOGUE v. 2 and 4, and v. 2 arrived today. Love that version of "Time On My Hands" with Sadi... say, Monsieur Solal turns 80 next month, correct?

Yes!

Saw him a couple of months ago, piano solo, and it was a great concert. His playing was fresher and his approach to standards more exploratory than ever. Of course, his mastery and virtuosity at the keyboard were intact.

And above all, he looked jovial, cheerful and funny like a youngster.

Martial Solal was deadborn on August 23, 1927 in Algiers. A few slaps had him out of the stupor a few minutes later.

He has been very much alive since and keeps going... An amazingly young 80 he is now.

Thank you, King Ubu, for the recommendations. I just came across another one, "Improvise pour France Musique", a 2-CD set on JSM which got a rave review in the Penguin Guide. The set seems not to be easily available; finally ordered it from a Swiss online dealer. Let's see if they are able to deliver.
