Newk Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I just saw Sonny Rollins at the Disney Concert Hall in L.A. The band consited of Sonny, Clifton Anderson, Bobby Broom, Bob Cranshaw, Steve Jordan, and Kimati Dinizulu. Nice band, nice concert, Sonny played well but never really reached the peaks that he usually does in concert. I was in the balcony and Sonnys horn was kind of buried in the mix for alot of the concert which may be part of the reason I feel this way. This is my ninth Sonny Rollins concert and its always a great time but at 74 it seems like he kind of has to pick his moments. I can't wait for the tenth. Quote
bertrand Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 (edited) Good to hear Sonny is back playing after his recent loss. I met Clifton Anderson a couple of weeks ago, and he seemed to be saying that Sonny was cancelling a few gigs (including April at the Kennedy Center). Now, I'm surprised to hear he decided to play again. Bertrand. Edited March 17, 2005 by bertrand Quote
Adam Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 My response is largely the same as Newk's. It was nice; no tremendous peaks; problematic mix. But I took my mom, and she loved it. The audience gave huge cheers to the two calypso numbers, and Rollins himself seemed taken aback by the intense enthusiasm of the crowd throughout, and seemed in good spirits. Quote
sheldonm Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 The audience gave huge cheers to the two calypso numbers, ...exactly the part of all Rollin's shows that I don't care for . Quote
