jazzbo
I'll start off. . . . Did you know that Marvin Gaye's second wife, the beautiful Janice Gaye, is Slim Gaillard's daughter? 'Strue! Edited March 15, 2005 by jazzbo
tonym
I did not know that. May I ask Lon, how you?
jazzbo
Did you know that Britney Spears' sister Jamie Lynn wants to be a singer too? Just a guess on my part. . . .

jazzbo
I'm assuming it's true about Janice Gaye . . . cuz I read it in "Mercy, Mercy Me : The Art, Loves and Demons of Marvin Gaye" by Michael Eric Dyson.
JSngry
It's true. And probably more commonly known was that MPG's first wife, Anna, was Barry Gordy's sister. She was much older than Marvin, and Marvin was much older than Janice, who was, at the time of their meeting, a Soul Train dancer. Both marriages were apparently quite "interesting"... How's that Dyson book compare to Divided Soul by David Ritz?
jazzbo
Haven't yet read Divided Soul. This one was pretty breezy in some good ways and interesting. I'd recommend it (especially at the 5 dollars or so I paid for it total through Half.com).
bertrand
So should we call him Marvin Gaye-a-roonie McVootie ? Bertrand.

Jim Alfredson
I just heard yesterday that it's a drum machine on the title track of "What's Going On". Is that true? I mean, I know there is real percussion on there, including Marvin hitting a cardboard box, but a drum machine?
Alon Marcus
More trivia about Britney (she is my favorite after Ella and Sarah). Few of us know that she is an expert in semiconductors. Can't say that I hear it, but I've not been listening for it either, so... Maybe your source was thinking of "Sexual Healing"?
ghost of miles
Did you know that the model for the cover of this Bill Evans album was Nico--later of Velvet Underground fame?
JSngry
So why's the album not called BANANA PEEL?
ghost of miles
So why's the album not called BANANA PEEL? Or PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE? Actually, kinda wonder what Bill Evans' version of "Heroin" might've sounded like... you ever hear the live radio station recording of Lou Reed & Don Cherry doing it? dave9199
Nico was also in a famous Italian movie who's name escapes me right now. She just happened to be around & the director used her in the movie.
