Guest ariceffron Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 i was thinking, what if there was a big band that had a fully naked chick for the vocalist. has that ever been done before in jazz history, at any point? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 CAPS LOCK ON, ARIC. CAPS LOCK ON!!!!! Quote
The Red Menace Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 And they say there are no creative thinkers left in jazz today!!! Quote

RDK Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 No, but I've heard that Duke Ellington occassionally played piano while not wearing any pants... Quote
RDK Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 And then there was that unfortunate incident with Jimmy Rushing... Quote
Dennis_M Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 (edited) Sometimes described as a jazz singer, but in reality she was everything from a social activist to a silent picture star, and starred with with the Revue Negre in Paris and the Folies Bergere, Josephine Baker almost fits your bill. I don't know if she ever sang in the nude, but it was close. And she did pose in the nude. She was way ahead of her time, considering she was born in about 1907. She does have at least one multiple CD set available (I have it, but in might be OOP by now). Dennis Edited March 11, 2005 by Dennis_M Quote
Larry Kart Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Doesn't quite fit your dream, but I've heard reliable accounts of a jam session held on the U. of Illionois campus back in in the late 1950s where all three musicians involved (Joe Farrell, Percy Heath, and a drummer who shall be nameless), plus their girlfriends/female companions for the evening were unclothed. Larry Kart Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 On the other hand, Joe Farrell unclothed vs. Josphine Baker unclothed is no contest. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 On the other hand, Joe Farrell unclothed vs. Josphine Baker unclothed is no contest. In whose favor? Quote
The Red Menace Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 No, but I've heard that Duke Ellington occassionally played piano while not wearing any pants... Was he playing "The Clothed Woman?" Quote
brownie Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Tony Scott was musical director for stripper Lily Saint-Cyr in the fifties. He led a quartet (with Oscar Pettiford on bass!) that backed her. Not sure if she sang or just stripped or did both at the same time Quote
Brad Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I'm glad Aric's thinking these heavy musical thoughts. Quote

ghost of miles Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 No effin way...Chaney wasn't making this up??? There are worlds yet left to imagine, Mark... whilst you and I drift drowsily into the stuporous comfort of middle age, younger fire-breathing visionaries dream of boundary-breaking that will liberate us all. Let us pray that we live to see it. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 Let us pray that we live to see it. Well....I'll go along with the first three words, anyway! Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 Aric, these bands are out there, touring now. Go look for 'em - must be a couple in your neighborhood. Quote

JSngry Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Charlotte Moorman could have done it, maybe. Quote
brownie Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Another one: Ann Richards who sang with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. She posed for Playboy magazine. She also married Kenton! Quote
