sidewinder Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 (edited) It seems just like yesterday that I heard of the 20th anniversary of Bird's death.. . I think it was one of the Verve LPs (most likely 'The Pick of Parker') that was my intro to his music - and truly memorable it was too. One of the very first jazz LPs I ever heard in fact - and I recall thinking at the time that this musician was a genius, no two ways about it. It all came so naturally out of the saxophone, just like a spoken dialect. I'll dig out the 'Pick of Parker' LP this afternoon, along with the Dean Benedetti Mosaic LP set and the Savoy box, by way of recognition. It's intriguing to think of what Bird might have recorded had he lived another 10 years ago, when the LP medium was becoming more mature and the likes of Blue Note made production into a fine art form. Bird on Blue Note is one of the great 'what ifs' for me.. B-) Edited March 13, 2005 by sidewinder Quote
Jazz Kat Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Wasn't there an album with Dizzy Gillespie, and John Lewis, w/ Bird? I think it was on Blue Note. Quote

That was the 1947 Carnegie Hall concert. Was reissued by BN a few years ago as 'Charlie Parker & Dizzy Gillespie - Diz 'n Bird at Carnegie Hall'. Quote
