bluesForBartok Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Been digesting the Venuti / Lang Mosaic over the last week and on some of the smaller group sides, (Joe Venuti's Blue Four) there is some really stand out Baritone playing from Don Murray. This guy was a real player! Very melodic and fluid. As always I defer to those on this board with far more knowledge than I possess to shed some light on this artist and his music. I'd love to hear opinions, anecdotes or what have you on this guy. Quote
brownie Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Don Murray was best known as the clarinet player who soloed wildly on some of Bix Beiderbecke's most famous recordings. He is heard on 'Jazz Me Blues' and 'Royal Garden Blues' among other Bix sides. Murray also played violin! Quote
AllenLowe Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 he plays great on some Ted Lewis things, as well - Quote

I picked up the Beiderbecke / Trumbauer Mosaic as well so there's lots more Murray to come! Quote
