EKE BBB
Just curious on recordings out there with only bass and vocals. Off the top of my head I can only recall Sheila Jordan´s discs: -I´ve grown accustomed to the bass, on Highnote (with Cameron Brown) -Sheila Jordan & Arild Andersen, on Steeplechase -Old time feeling / The very thought of two / Songs from within (all three with Harvie Swartz) And then there´s that Dave Holland-Jeanne Lee duo (Mingus meditations) on the later´s "Natural affinities". Any more? Edited March 10, 2005 by EKE BBB
Pete B
Helen Merrill with Ron Carter. I think it was called "Alone Together" (fittingly enough). A marvelous recording.
Guest DizzySpells
My favourite one: "Uncharted Land" bass: Nils-Hennig Oersted Pedersen vocals: Soes Fenger from: Niels-Henning Oersted Pedersen. Uncharted Land. Pladecompagniet AS, Denmark, 1991/1992.
mikeweil
Helen Merrill with Ron Carter. I think it was called "Alone Together" (fittingly enough). A marvelous recording. They didn't even do that tune - the CD was simply titled Duets, recorded in 1988 for Nippon Phonogram.
mikeweil
There are two astonishing takes of Love in the middle of the air by Dee Dee Bridgewater and Reggie Workman, composed by and released under the name of German/Polish composer Heiner Stadler on Labor Records - very hot, intriguing stuff! Tom in RI
Karin Krog did a slendid vocal with bass duet of Round Midnight that was from a festival in Europe and released on Enja. I have the record but I can't lay hands on it at the moment. Can't quite remember the bassist's name (Arild Anderson?). Pete, I think you're thinking of the duet recording that Carter did w/Jim Hall.
Pete B
Please pardon my over-40 memory (or lack thereof) It's a great album, anyway. Merrill always sounds exquisite.
GA Russell
Mark Murphy's Sings the Nat King Cole Songbook on Muse/32 Jazz features a number of tracks with him accompanied only by a bass.
