This list is far superior to today's average teenager's CD (or MP3) collection

Thank you.

I couldn't agree more.

You should see, err hear, some of my students' cell phone ringtone collections.

I always wondered what the heck that Wheel In the Sky was that Journey talked about. Where is it? Are there any pictures of it.  ;)

It's so deep.

:P

I see that you also have a copy of "The Worst Rock & Roll Records Ever Made!" :tup:g

I don't have that book... maybe I should get it. :g

I just picture the guys from Journey smoking a big ol' joint and having a deep philosophical conversation about the "wheel in the sky".

Let's listen in:

Steve: Hey man, you know there's this wheel in the sky... It keeps on turning.

Neil: Really man... Wow... that's pretty profound... it never stops turning

Steve: Yeah... just keeps on turning... around and around, just turning.

Neil: Dude! You should write a song about it.

Steve: Yeah, great idea! I can work on it tomorrow... oh yeah, but I don't know where I'll be tomorrow.

Neil: Yeah! Put that in the song too! The Wheel in the Sky keeps on turning - BUT I don't know where I'll be tomorrow.

Steve: WOW... that's PROFOUND! The Wheel keeps on turning yet I don't know where I'll be tomorrow. It's just like life, man...

Neil: Yeah it is. I'll come up with this cool guitar part. Man! We'll have a hit.

Steve: Yeah... and speaking of hits, pass me that bong. I need to reload.

:eye::eye:

That's my vision of the creation of that song.

I have feigned sleep, preoccupation, or a hostile

levity when I realized by some unmistakable sign that an intimate

revelation was quivering on the horizon; for the intimate revelations

of young men, or at least the terms in which they express them, are

usually plagiaristic and marred by obvious suppressions.

Isn't that from "Stairway to Heaven?"

Maybe Aric can call Steve Perry to find out whether there are any deep stories behind the writing of "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" or "Any Way You Want It"... B-)

Some will win, some will lose

Some were born to sing the blues

Oh, the movie never ends

It goes on and on and on and on

That's just...... poetry, y'know? Wonder how many junior-high-school yearbooks contain these lines?:g

Any way you want it

That's the way you need it

Any way you want it

She loves to laugh

She loves to sing

She does everything

She loves to move

She loves to groove

She loves the lovin' things

Ooh, all night, all night

Oh, every night

So hold tight, hold tight

Ooh, baby, hold tight

Oh, she said,

Any way you want it

That's the way you need it

Any way you want it

She said, Any way you want it

That's the way you need it

Any way you want it

I was alone

I never knew

What good love could do

Ooh, then we touched

Then we sang

About the lovin' things

Ooh, all night, all night

Oh, every night

So hold tight, hold tight

Ooh baby, hold tight

Oh, she said,

Any way you want it

That's the way you need it

Any way you want it

She said, Any way you want it

That's the way you need it

Any way you want it

I just found a website analyzing "Wheel in the Sky."

:huh::huh::wacko:

This just in from the "I did not know that" department:

What else can be said of Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'? Perry's bluesy opus of hurt and gleeful revenge was the second single released from the album in Aug '79 and climbed all the way up the charts to #16. Journey's first certifiable 'hit' and a concert staple/fan favorite to this day.

Time to play Journey trivia! Q. How many 'Na's' are in the 'Na, na, na, na, na, na' sing along? A. 77!

That's a lot of "na's" and I never imagined the word "opus" being used in regards to Journey.

The things you learn on jazz bulletin boards. :tup

Lord Almighty, if my wife ever finds out....... ;)

"Bluesy opus." Uh huh, just because a song has a du-DUH du-DUH du-DUH thudding plodding beat don't make it de blues!!!! GEEZUS!!!

I nominate "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" for Worst Song of All Time. Those damn "na na na's," and then there's that part where Perry says "oooo ev-ooo-ee ev-oo-ee ev-oo-e niiiiight" like he's a castrata Elmer Fudd or something.

Having said that, though, I'll also readily admit that Perry's finest moment has to be his solo hit "Foolish Heart." Just something about that song, the words, the dreamy atmospheric beat, and the fact that Perry sings so restrained have made it a favorite of mine for the last 20 years. The video's pretty cool, too! B-)

That beats out the 27 heys in Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love by a longshot!
