I'm actually more disappointed by the fact that she's getting rid of it than with the overall crappiness of her collection. I mean, you like what you like, and if it's Bon Jovi and Kenny G. that float your boat, well then rock on. But that she's selling the lot indicates that she doesn't listen to these discs anymore. So she very likely only bought them for the one or two songs that were playing on the radio that caught her fancy. Now that the moment has passed, these discs are nothing more than an albatross around her neck*, and the sooner she's rid of them the better.

*Warning: Literary allusion. If you were a high school student in one of my classes, this would go right over your head.

Peter,

Wonder why she's dumping such a stellar collection of unlistenable music? Has she experienced some sort of musical epiphany by virtue of her working in your immediate vicinity?

Up over and out.

If we're going to start quoting from Rime Of The Ancient Mariner....then we should check and see if she has a copy of Iron Maiden's Powerslave album for sale...

:P

I own The Mavericks CD and I don't care what anyone has to say about it, its damn fine retro country. They even make a Bruce Springsteen song, "All That Heaven Will Allow" listenable.

fess up

i have journey's greatest hits cd

Lying beside you, here in the dark

Feeling your heart beat with mind

Softly you whisper, you’re so sincere

How could our live be so blind

We sailed on together

We drifted apart

And here you are by my side

So now I come to you, with open arms

Nothing to hide, believe what I say

So here I am with open arms

Hoping you’ll see what your love means to me

Open arms

Living without you, living alone

This empty house seems so cold

Wanting to hold you, wanting you near

How much I wanted you home

But now that you’ve come back

Turned night into day

I need you to stay.

i love you all,

ss1

I would hope if they are students in YOUR class, this would not be allowed to go right over their heads!!! ;)

I will concede that the Mavericks lead singer or I guess ex-lead singer, Raul Malo, does have one helluva set of pipes. I saw him do a medley that included "Make the World Go Away" and "For the Good Times" on that Top 100 County Songs TV show that aired awhile back and it gave me something akin to goosebumps.

The Malo performance that gave me chills was during the Holiday program that ABC ran in December 2001. Him and his guitar, in post-9/11 New York City, singing, "New York, New York." Totally opposite to the bombast of Sinatra and big band, it had this amazing balance, between the gently strummed chords and almost mournful quality in his voice along side the core optimism of the song.

Truly incredible.

I know someone that has every disc there plus fifty that are worse. I can't stomach to list all the Wilson Phillipses, Kenny Chesneys, and other crimes against humanity.

I'm with Moose - them Bangles are/were a fun band. There's also some Elvis on there. :tup

To me, it's not the individual albums that are so bad - yeah, I know we like jazz and so are better and more refined than everyone else - but the list as a whole. But that's pop music, guys - that's what *most* people listen to and enjoy...

I'm trying to figure out what overall kind of music this person goes for. Bon Jovi, Kenny G., Harry Connick, Elvis.... what an assortment.

Maybe she's selling things given as presents by clueless friends and family???

In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice

that I've been turning over in my mind ever since.

"Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just

remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages

that you've had."
