Jazz Kat Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 I love the bass. I got an electric but it has been my dream to play an acoustic bass. Any out there swing it on the bass? Quote
7/4 Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 I can close to buying one a few years ago, but didn't. I just don't have the room for one. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted March 8, 2005 Author Report Posted March 8, 2005 Well I'm glad I dont live in Florida, because if I buy one the heat might cause it to explode. (this has been known to happen) Quote
RDK Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 I'm sorry, but it always cracks me up that the two things are spelled the same. Quote

Jazz Kat Posted March 8, 2005 Author Report Posted March 8, 2005 If you go out looking to buy a bass are you, bass fishing? Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 Dare I introduce "base"? The root meaning is probably the same. Quote
Pete B Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 When I go out on a gig, I always wear my Bass shoes, and I often drink Bass ale on our breaks. Yeah, I play a double bass. Quote
GregK Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 Pete B said: Yeah, I play a double bass. what about a single bass? Quote

Jazz Kat Posted March 8, 2005 Author Report Posted March 8, 2005 They call fishing for beginners, "cello fishing." Quote
Free For All Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 Me, I enjoy watching *cello wrestling*. Quote
Pete B Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 Well, it was called a double bass because it doubled the cello (in a lower octave of course), so I suppose one could call the cello a single bass. But I wouldn't. Quote
jazz4u Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 Been playing jazz on electric for 15 years. The acoustic's tone has a wonderful combination of warmth of articulation that the best electrics have yet to match, but the electric is right there across your chest, so improvising on it is a little easier. I say this even though I dont play the acoustic Quote

Pete B Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 An exploding bass? I shudder at the thought, unless it's one of those cheap Chinese numbers, which in time will fall apart on their own anyway. Quote

Pete B Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 The 2XB is a whole 'nother animal. The electric is a guitar, after all. Skills don't transfer well from one to the other. Myself, I can't get comfortable on an ebg, but then, I sold my last ebg many years ago. There's a story about George Duvivier. When the ebg came into vogue in the late 60s for studio work, he was convinced to buy one to increase his studio work. After a few weeks, he deliberately left it in the backseat of his unlocked car. When he came back to the car it was gone. He never played one again. A lot of us 2XB guys are like that B-) Quote
Joe G Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 "the baddest bassist in the land.... WILLIE WEEKS Y'ALL!" That's the second time in two days that someone has mentioned him. Quote
