I have a basic question for you computer mavens!

I use Windows 98. Let's say I want to copy a paragraph to another document. So I first must select the text by highlighting it.

I know that the first method is to drag the mouse across the text. And the second method is to hold the shift key while I use the arrow button to achieve the same result.

My 1987-vintage Atari ST lets me do what I want to do. I can place the cursor at the beginning of the passage and press a function key. Then I place the cursor at the end of the passage and press the function key again. The text is then highlighted.

Can I do that with Windows 98? If so, what is the function key?

Double click first word of passage (marks that word).

Hold shift key.

Double click last word of passage (marks everything inbetween plus that last word).

Bingo!

in MSWord: place curse at the start of the paragraph. press ctrl-shift and hit the arrow-down button. tadaa!

I place curses on MSWord and other MS products all the time! Not always effective though.

This technique works for selecting text in this forum too... Try it.

BTW, don't send the curses to silicon valley. Bill isn't there, he is a few hundred miles and couple of states up north. :P
