Just signed up on easytree and picked up a couple of shows in FLAC format. What's the best way to convert them to MP3 so I can listen on my portable? I've been searching a bit and it looks like this can't be done entirely with LAME, but I'm not sure...

Appreciate all the help!

Don't know about FLAC > MP3, but if you want to burn them on regular CDRs, you got to install FLAC Frontend. All very easy. That one makes WAVs out of the FLACs, and I suppose you using an MP3 player know how to handle WAVs.

Saw that after I posted... but how would you do MP3s with FLAC Frontend? Via WAV, as I suggested? Using that or another programme? (Not that it matters to me, as I don't have any use for MP3s.)

I don't know either. I only use the program for burning onto cdr. It should be fairly easy to figure out, given the prevalence of ipods these days.

I use Foobar2000. It is perfect for going from FLAC to MP3.

Foobar2000 Special Installer

Make sure you download the Special Version because it includes the tool you need (foo_clienc.dll) to transcode from FLAC to MP3 or anything format you like.

I don't have the time to write out a full FAQ, but these screen shots should help.

Ok, I've got foobar2000 downloaded, but I can't seem to figure out how to get LAME to show up in the "output presets" bar in the Diskwriter menu. When clicking "add new" I just get 3 options: Legacy 0.7 output support, WAV fixed-point, and WAV floating-point. There doesn't seem to be a way to add LAME the way it shows up in Jim's screenshots. I've hunted around and they suggest copying LAME (and all the files in the LAME directory besides lame.exe?) into the foobar2k directory, but that doesn't seem to work for me...
