As one of the unlucky souls who missed out on Hill Mosaic set when it was available...I've been trying to cobble together the missing pieces...

But with the recent releases Passing Ships, Dance With Death...etc, I've lost track of what was never issued...and what is material contained in the box. I just want to make sure I don't duplicate material...and that I'm not missing out on stuff.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I've been too busy to keep up to date with all this....

P.S. And come to think of it....I'm just as confused about the Larry Young Mosaic set...what hasn't been re-released from that?

See the Hill discography that Ronald Lyles and I put together on my website.

Mike

Not entirely clear to many folks where that is, perhaps you might consider providing a link.

Your p_www.gif link goes here: http://home.eclipse.net/~fitzgera/, where "Andrew Hill" isn't listed.

Not sure everyone realizes that you also maintain http://www.jazzdiscography.com, which is where the Hill discography is.

In any case, providing a link might be more useful. Just a friendly suggestion. :)

Rooster,

The www link for Mike only goes to his Jazz research site. However, in his signature, both sites are listed and accessible by clicking.

Shawn's question can be answered off the top pf my head (except for dates):

Andrew Hill sessions not yet available on individual CDs:

Andrew!!!

Compulsion!

Session with Hubbard/Joe Henderson (2/10/65)

Session with Sam Rivers ('Lust', 'Pain', 'Violence') (3/7/66)

Larry Young:

Heaven And Earth

Contrasts

According to Kevin B., Contrasts may possibly appear as a Connoisseur soon.

Bertrand.

I don't know about Rooster, but I have signatures turned off in my control settings, so I don't see Mike's links in his post either. Already hip to them, though.

You can turn off signatures? News to me. That's kind of stupid in my view. But I suppose there are a few I wouldn't want to see again, though I deal with them. Before I submit I have to decide whether or not to include the signature. And I always turn off the smilies. Now when are we going to get some *useful* tools like the "ignore user" function.

Re: the Hill film - I know nothing more at this point.

You turn off the smilies?

I speak in smilies... oof! LOL

No, no - I can see them fine. It's a "post option" - I just don't use them myself. Besides, I have seen inadvertent problems - smilies were getting created unintentionally - I forget what it was - (b) or -b or something like that. I don't need 'em. But if you want to use them, fine - I'll be able to see them.

Yes, you can choose not to view other posters' signatures. I've had my controls set that way for most of the life of this board. To me, they became redundant, were often meaningless, sometimes took up a lot of space, and on my system, the less data that has to load, the better.

I'm pro-smileys. They can be over-used and abused sometimes, but they can be very important in communicating, and they're fun as well, IMO.

Unfortunately some of us do NOT use signatures for pointless things that just take up space. My signature (when I use it - and I don't always) is a vital part of my posts. And no, I'm not going to start typing out those URLs - that's the whole damn point of having a signature!

There's a point to having a signature???

That's good about the smilies. I was trying to think of a new way to express myself in my posts. I'd be afraid of what people would think of me if they couldn't see that the smilie said I was just kidding.

I guess I'm lucky to be on a cable modem because I enjoy signatures and avatars. I find it's a good way to get to know you guys better and I appreciate links to sites, etc...

At least we have the "www" (which links to our personal websites) button with our posts, Michael. I think everyone can see that.

Update your web site and add the button AB!

Oh yeah... :D

I have a link to my design site now.

Did you find my old website? I haven't updated that thing in two years. I was wondering if anyone would notice that's where my pictures were hosted. :P

I'm one of the last three people still on dialup - and I don't have any problem with 98% of the images. Even the recent one of Cosmic Music took only a moderate time to load. Of course, I don't frequent some of the image-intensive threads (racy album covers, etc.). As for smilies - hey, use 'em if you want to, but remember that for thousands of years people have been communicating fine with just words on the page.

My Internet posting philosophy tends to align with the kind of stuff here:

http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1855.html

Unfortunately, more and more this kind of thing seems to be considered "quaint" or something like that. "Oh - we don't need etiquette." Yes. You do.

I've never read that. Thank you for posting it.

That's cool!

Actually, I only have about 1/4 of those guitars now. Right after I took those photos in 2002, I started selling, trading, and buying like crazy.

Getting back to the most important issue (insert smiley face here).

I knew about the Hill film, then completely forgot about it until Jim brought it up. Ron Horton had told me about it, and asked me who might be interested. I suggested that it be forwarded to the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound division of the Library of Congress to be considered for the Jazz Film series that they host once a year. I know that this was done, I guess two or three years ago now. I did not hear after what happened to it (I'm usually out of the loop in these cases), and I did not know that it had been made available commercially.

Essentially, it's the band rehearsing '15/8'. Never saw it though.

I susepect Ron Horton is the man who would know best about the status of the film.
