JSngry Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 (edited) A http://mingusmingusmingus.com/main/news.htm turns up this tidbit regarding TONIGHT AT NOON: Quote The other major re-issue is part of the Atlantic Masters series, "Tonight At Noon." The performances on this album were recorded on two separate occasions, some four years apart. The 1961 date includes 'Invisible Lady' and 'Peggy's Blue Skylight' featuring Roland Kirk. Originally released as three sides of a double vinyl album, it comes with spoken interludes. Though the two sessions cover different stylistic ground, they blend together seamlessly and feature some of Mingus's loveliest tunes. WTF? Edited March 4, 2005 by JSngry Quote
Joe Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Could this be a reference to the old Atlantic 2-LP set PASSIONS OF A MAN? Track listing... -- Pithecanthropus erectus (10:41) -- Profile of Jackie (3:07) -- Reincarnation of a lovebird (8:31) -- Haitian fight song (11:57) -- Wednesday night prayer meeting (5:30) -- Cryin' blues (4:58) -- Devil woman (9:38) -- Wham bam thank you ma'am (4:41) -- Passions of a man (4:52) -- Tonight at noon (5:58) -- Passions of a woman loved (9:43) -- Duke Ellington's sound of love (12:04) -- Better git hit in your soul (4:35) -- Sue's changes (17:04) -- Canon (5:30) -- Free Cell Block F, 'tis Nazi U.S.A. (6:52) -- Goodbye, porkpie hat (7:00) -- Mingus on Mingus : a brief set of casual spoken reflections (3:30). I've never heard or seen said release, but it could be that the "spoken interludes" were culled from the interview (w/ Neshui Ertegun) that was appended to the big COMPLETE ATLANTIC RECORDINGS box. RDK Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 For a long time that Passion 2-fer was the only place to find the Tonight at Noon material. Along with Ah Um, it was one of the albums that really made me sit up, take notice of Mingus, and go . Man, I can still remember listening to "Tonight at Noon" (the track) for the first time. It was a revelation. And one of those things that changes you deep down... Quote
Tom in RI Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 I think someone is confusing a Mingus work with Rahsaan Roland Kirk's The Case of the Three Sided Dream in Audio Color. As to new release from Revenge, I have given up going the Mingus site to check. I remember there being mention over the past several years of dates that might be issued but isn't there only one Revenge release? Frankly, I've given up hope. Quote
DMP Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 The 3 1961 cuts turned up on the Rhino "Deluxe Edition" of "Oh Yeah." (They were apparently from the same session.) Have the earlier cuts also turned up somewhere else? (Don't have a discography handy.) Quote

RDK Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Looking at it again, I think they're simply talking about this... http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&t...10:fxfuxqwgldte ... which seems old news by now... Quote
