Tony Pusey
We all know what a great label Water is, but what about Sundazed? Just listening to the unreleased Spirit sondtrack, The Model Shop- and what a great blast from the past it is, after Family that Plays Together but before, and partially superceded, by Clear,What a fabulous band they were in their original incarnation, ie before Californias accident and pre Kapt Kopter, a really succesful rock /jazz fusion. And Sundazed have also released a live Youngbloods album which I have not yet heard, . Öther appreciations or am I alone? They also have the great Euphoria imprint devoted to jazz guitar slingers, but that seems to have been dormant on cd for a while......... AfricaBrass
I LOVE Sundazed. I've been buying their reissues. One batch that I've appreciate are those Howard Roberts titles on Euphoria. I have them on vinyl, but I've wanted to get them on cd. I've also enjoyed the Buck Owens reissues; it's been nice being able to get the original albums. The Sagittarius/Millenium cds are good ones if you like late 60's pop.
RDK
Their printed catalogs are a gas, so be sure you request one or are on their mailing list. A recent one was in 3-D, complete with glasses.
Tony Pusey
Africa, are you a closet Curt Boettcher fan? I am! Yes, I have the 4 Howard Robert records, fine stuff.
Brandon Burke
The Sagittarius/Millenium cds are good ones if you like late 60's pop. Yup. I just listened to that Millennium record the other day. But did you know that it came out on 8-track....?
Tony Pusey
O.K. Brandon, you win! a fine case of one-up-manship! It was never even released on vinyl in the UK. I know it came out in the Netherlands. My copy was a US import....Perhaps its time to score a copy of the Sundazed Version with all the Ballroom stuff? My copy on cd is a Japanese issue... AfricaBrass
The Sagittarius/Millenium cds are good ones if you like late 60's pop. Yup. I just listened to that Millennium record the other day. But did you know that it came out on 8-track....? I used to have a Yoko Ono 8-track and I'd put it in my old 2XL and play it for people. The 2XL was this robot looking machine that asked questions that were on these 8 track tapes. I got it when I was a kid and it was a lot of fun. But... it was even better with its red eyes glowing while Yoko is shreiking Don't Worry Kyoko.
Tony Pusey
Clem, Wendy and Bonnie is in my local store waiting for me even as we speak. And of course Skip Spence is one of the best albums ever made, in any genre, period! And yeah the Artex( still waiting for vol 4, Wheres my daddy and a Band called Markley though) USA, Beau brummels, HMS Bounty et al , they are all sitting upstairs on my shelves....sometimes seems like our tastes coincide ne ce pas? Tony Pusey
...tho I think I will avoid the Gandalf recomendation, ( already have the Cosmic Sounds) in order to avoid the senario of the missus catching me back to back with a hot hippie chick ( sigh)

If you ever see the old Music Machine Best Of LP on Rhino, I'd pick that up. I grew up listening to that album ALL THE TIME. You can make your own version of it with the two Sundazed CDs plus the Turn On cd that's been released by another label. paul secor
Skip Spence, mono Dylan, and Buck Owens would be plenty reasons enough to be grateful for this label. Not to mention: Stax sides - Booker T & Co., Otis, & Rufus Thomas, the Holy Modal Rounders, the Incredible String Band, the first 2 Sir Doug Quintet LPs, mono Spoonful

Tony Pusey
Yes Africa, I suppose chaos theory might be able to explain why we all seem to have so much of our collections in common. I mean we are not even tangentally talking about jazz here, right? I mean what are the chances of finding someone else who digs Skippy, or even the Rounders or Millenium? I sure do feel at home here! wolff
Irwin/Sundazed interview link. Blonde On Blonde re-issue interview link There is also a Stereophile interview somewhere. I can't think of an independent reissue label, other than Mosaic and Classic Records(vinyl), that I like so much. Same here. I remember playing in bands in the 80's and trying to share this kind of music with my friends. They thought I was loony when I'd play a song like Moby Grape's "Seeing" for them and rave about how amazing it was. I remember making a special order for the Sony Special Products version of Spence's Oar album in '91 (after having the Edsel vinyl edition for years). Heck, I still have my complete collection of Rhino's Nuggets LP series. I guess people who love music will eventually find jazz. I LOVE jazz, it's about 60% of what I own now, but I still love tons of other stuff.
Tony Pusey
Africa, I ve had Skippys Oar in several different editions down the years, I bought it new and mint on import shortly after its release and following a wonderful review in Rollin Stone. Sad that hes gone, favourite stories of Skip include the one where he awoke in the morgue following an o.d! Better is the one when having been commited to a psychiatric institution he dissapeared and was discovered days later in the womens ward! Think Ill spin it this evening. Better is the one when having been commited to a psychiatric institution he dissapeared and was discovered days later in the womens ward! Think Ill spin it this evening. Skippy was a trip! I read some interview with Peter Lewis (from Moby Grape) about how Skippy would just get possessed and try to attack him. I believe he had found religion before his passing. I hope that gave him some peace. I always loved the image of him getting out of Bellvue and heading south on a motorcycle to record Oar. AfricaBrass
Up for information and appreciation (?) of the Rascals albums I purchased both of those Rascals albums, but I don't have them here with me (they're in storage). I remember liking the album Peaceful World better than the Island of Real album. I'd check out the sound samples at Amazon. They should give you some idea of what these albums are about.
