jazzman21 Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 How do you know when you go to buy a Blue Note album if it's a original or not. What do you look for? Quote
porcy62 Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 This can help http://www.ronpenndorf.com/labelography.html Quote
jazzman21 Posted February 27, 2005 Author Report Posted February 27, 2005 Thanks a million, this is exactly what I was looking for. Quote
spinlps Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 No pics here, but decent descriptions of labels, markings, and some sonic comparisons... Quote
ajf67 Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 For what it's worth, I think this is pretty good. When printed, it's a little confusing because it's easy to lose track of which text goes with which photo, but he does provide clear, direct info on the various issue labels. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 This has confused me alot. I get a blue note lp, thinking it's somewhat old, then I see copyright 1997 on the back. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 what was the $$$$ of new bn lps in the 1950's-60's? Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 what was the $$$$ of new bn lps in the 1950's-60's? I've got a Sinatra Capitol from the late fifties that had the shrink wrap on it from a place called the Jazz Mart (?) and a price tag of $1.47! Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 what was the $$$$ of new bn lps in the 1950's-60's? Guys on the board who owned shops can probably give a definitive answer...but both of my Hubbard's still have $1.49 price tags on the shrink. Quote
Bill Fenohr Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Back in the mid to late 60's new Blue Note releases,in our shop, sold for $2.95 mono and $3.95 stereo. I dont remember the mono wholesale price, but i think the stereo lp's were about $2.60 or thereabouts. Those $1.47 prices were probably clearence prices. I think back in those days we were buying Riverside and Prestige closeouts for about $1.25 and selling them for $1.99. Quote
brownie Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 List prices for Blue Note albums in the late '50s were $4,98. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 But it meant the same back then, so theres no difference. Quote

wolff Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 (edited) Wow!!! That's the most I've seen a Blue Note go for. You got a copy, Brownie? Edited March 14, 2005 by wolff Quote
brownie Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 Wolff, my copy has a Lexington adress at the bottom of its backcover but the vinyl inside is a BN/UA Quote
Jazz Kat Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I meant back then 4:50 for an album is like 11.99 for one now. Quote
MartyJazz Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 $5K for a Hipp-Zoot???!!!!!!!!! The world's gone mad. Quote
BFrank Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 After looking at the labelography page, I realize that my vinyl of Larry Young's "Into Somethin' " appears to be an original Mono version. Any idea what this thing's worth? Quote
