sidewinder Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 - Päul Gonsalves 'Cookin' (Argo) I picked up a mint Japanese copy of that vinyl for £5 a few weeks ago, Brownie. It's a very nice session, indeed. Cool cover with the 'Daddy-O Presents' logo (whoever he was). Quote

sidewinder Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 One option might be to send Hiroshi a message to reserve the vinyl next time he gets it in. That might be a good way to get hold of the Japanese vinyl. If I come across another copy I'll let you know.. B-) Quote

Late Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Clifford Jordan, "In the World" And just about anything that was on the Horo label. Good picks there. Was Charles Brackeen's Rhythm X ever out on compact disc? I've seen it on reissued vinyl, but have always wanted to pick it up in disc form. Any leads? There's a Lacy on Horo with Kent Carter that would be nice to hear. A duo album which I believe is titled Catch. Quote
Brownian Motion Posted March 6, 2005 Report Posted March 6, 2005 European Windows by John Lewis. An great third stream album by a major jazz figure. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 European Windows by John Lewis. An great third stream album by a major jazz figure. I thought it was a snooze. Bought it around 1960. Spose everyone should have the option, but...................... Quote
Hank Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 I definitely like the idea of a Lucky Thompson/Milt Jackson collection of the Savoy/Atlantic sides. I'd also love to see Julius Hemphill's Dogon A.D. finally released on CD. Quote

MartyJazz Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 (edited) I'd like to see the output of a not too well known, yet excellent pianist issued on CD. To date, I only have him represented on LP - Charles Bell. One on Atlantic, the other on Columbia (he may have done more, but that's all I have). Additionally, he did a fabulous live version of "Whisper Not" on an RCA Victor piano anthology that also contains performances by Earl Hines, Duke Ellington, Willie 'the Lion", etc., all recorded at the Newport JF. jazzbo Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 I've never seen anything but the Atlantic and Columbia from Bell. Yeah, through the odd choices of lps given to Peace Corps volunteers in the mid sixties as care packages, I got "Another Dimension" as one of the very first lps I ever had (another was Leo Wright's excellent Blues Shout"and yet another was "Sister Salvation" by Slide Hampton), a gift from a volunteer who I guess didn't dig it when we were in Ethiopia. That version of "My Favorite Things" is KILLER. . . love the way it develops. TAhese are really good albums, but I don't expect to see them soon. . . Quote
Free For All Posted March 12, 2005 Author Report Posted March 12, 2005 Anthony Braxton Creative Orchestra Music (1976) Is it true that it has never been out on CD? Quote
Spontooneous Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 (edited) Anthony Braxton Creative Orchestra Music (1976) Is it true that it has never been out on CD? It was on one of those RCA/Bluebird CDs of the late '80s, about the same time as the George Russell/Rod Levitt disc. Edited March 13, 2005 by Spontooneous Quote
