I really don't like thinking about a world without jazz.

But I listen to a lot of different music. Everything from Classical music to rock to old country-anything but most of what is on the radio!

Considering that I grew out of rock before I discovered jazz, I suspect I'd be listening to blues, although it is also true that I did not discover the blues until I had started listening to jazz, so if there were no jazz, would I have known enough to get into the blues independently?

Maybe not, so in the absence of the blues, I'd probably still be listening to the last genre I listened to before getting completely away from pop/rock: Oldies (50s-60s, and some 70s out of a sense of personal nostalgia for the AM radio I grew up on).

actually, I hardly ever listen to jazz anymore - this week I've been listening to:

1940s/1950s white gospel CD

Merle Haggard

Mike Bloomfield

Dizzy Gillespie - 1943/44 (snuck that one in)

Sun Records blues anthology

most of all I love that hillbilly music - particularly pre-War - sounds fresh and out there, all the time -

the voices in my head - and they are commanding me -

I AM A BRICK WALL I AM A BRICK WALL

If that were to be the case, Allen, the voices in *my* head would be commanding me to run into you at high velocity on a regular basis!

Actually, if I had never known jazz my experience would probably mirror Dan's in that I may have gravitated toward blues. Now --- if jazz just vanished tomorrow (the HORROR!) I'd split my time between the blues and classical music.

Why do you poll fanatics always forget the most important option:

All of the above!

Agreed! :tup

Jazz is just another genre of music. I love listening to music, so if there wasn't any jazz I'd just be listening to some other genre...
