JSngry Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 Please, can we settle this once and for all? Quote
Dan Gould Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 I vote for Percy France's version of Stanley T.'s "Sugar" from the Black & Blue album, Oliver Jackson Presents Le Quartet. Quote
JSngry Posted February 20, 2005 Author Report Posted February 20, 2005 Please, sir, this is a blinding reeferend'em with globbal implacations. I would respectfully ask you to take the question seriously. Quote
couw Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 I will need audio samples to refresh the memory Quote
Jazzmoose Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 I voted for "tie", with the assumption that the 'etc.' included 'this song is so frickin' bad it makes my ears bleed and those repsonsible should be first up against the wall when the revolution comes, especially Don Kirchner, of course'; if not let me know, I'll need to change my vote... RDK Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 I ain't too embarrassed to say: The Archies' version! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 Jimmy McPartland on repeat mode. Quote

Harold_Z Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Pickett gets my vote. I love the explicit drug referances in "Sugar Sugar". I mean like it's hipper than "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" !!! Quote
jazzbo Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Jimmy McPartland on repeat mode? PRICELESS! Quote
John L Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 (edited) I love the Wicked One, but I have trouble getting with him on Sugar, Sugar. I'll have to go with the Archies as well. They have a dorky enough sound to go along with the composition. They succeed in putting the bubble in the gum. (I would be scared to chew the shit after Pickett got finished with it.) Chrome Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 There's this interesting/kitschy disc called something like "Saturday Morning's Greatest Hits" with a bunch of indie-types doing cartoon songs ... Ramones do the Spider-Man theme, Juliana Hatfield/Tanya Donnelly () do "Josie and the Pussycats," etc. and Mary Lou Lord/Semisonic do "Sugar, Sugar" in a way that's pretty catchy. Quote
maren Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 For me it's the Archies -- indelible imprinting from endless car radio play during high school years... Quote
AllenLowe Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Lee Wiley - old Sugar, but Sugar just the same - (and I think she was the prototype for Veronica) Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Wilson Pickett. He exists and can sing the Archies don't and they can't. Quote
