A Lark Ascending Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 It got us today. Blizzard driving to work. Roads grind to a halt. World War III in the school quad on arrival. Then it started to melt so we wern't sent home. Further proof of the non-existence of God (unless he's an Old Testament bugger). Quote

chris olivarez Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 I know Spring can't be too far off. The skunks are out in Pagosa. Quote

Claude Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 A lot of snow here in Luxembourg and in Belgium, especially the Ardennes hills. My new girlfriend, who is 37 and lives in Malta, touched snow for the first time in her life this weekend in Brussels. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 (edited) Still nothing as yet here in SW England. :rsmile: Damned cold though ! Edited February 24, 2005 by sidewinder Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Nearly all the schools in the area closed this afternoon...except the one I work in! Quote
7/4 Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Wainting for snow. We're expecting 4-8 inches. Quote
nmorin Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 I'm originally from the western part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on the Lake Superior Coast, where, as a result of lake effect snow, the average annual snowfall is about 230 inches, and the record is 355 inches. The tough part isn't really the total snowfall, it's that we'll get snow just about every damned day, and that the sky will be grey for 5 or 6 days a week for months. On the plus side, Lake Superior acts like a hot water bottle, so we don't get the bone crushing cold that Minnesota and the Dakotas get. Still, I'll take 8 inches of snow over the freezing rain crap we get here in DC and in the Carolinas. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 I never could understand the excitement of Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and the other one (?) when they were sat on that train in 'White Christmas' and burst into: "snow....Snow....SNOWWWWW"! Quote
Free For All Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and the other one (?) Vera-Ellen was her name I believe. No doubt doomed to be known throughout the annals of film history as "the other one". Quote

brownie Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 Vera-Ellen was her name I believe. No doubt doomed to be known throughout the annals of film history as "the other one". Mmmmm, I think it was "The Other One with the Mighty Fine Legs" Vera Ellen was just not 'another one'. She was a pretty actress and a good cancer. She did very well in 'On The Town' another classic from the team that gave us 'Singin' In The Rain', Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly! Hate the snow! But spending a White Christmas with a Vera Ellen would be bliss Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 I assume that was 'a good dancer'? Quote
Noj Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 I might dislike some things about snow and the cold if it didn't provide me the ecstacy that is snowboarding. Quote
randissimo Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 I assume that was 'a good dancer'? I live in west Michigan and I'm so fareekin' tired of lake effct snow, ice, salty roads, gray daze, & freezing rain... .... My mountain bike is tuned up and patiently waiting for spring.. I'm the one getting impatient! ..... Just 4 more weeks to go before the spring equinox, when it will be time to once again pop in Stravinsky's "Rite Of Spring" and if it's warm enough, open some damn windows! Quote

Just 4 more weeks to go before the spring equinox, when it will be time to once again pop in Stravinsky's "Rite Of Spring" and if it's warm enough, open some damn windows! Try this one as an alternative. 'Enter Spring' works at that point when you think it's spring and then winter suddenly bites back for a few days...and then back comes spring... There's an inexpensive Naxos version: Which also sets you up for the following season! Edited February 25, 2005 by Bev Stapleton Quote
Joe G Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 No snow today; bright blue skies and a lovely sunset just now. I went out for a walk this evening, about two miles around the nearby woods and pond. Holy crap was it cold! Beautiful, though. Quote
7/4 Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 We're looking at something on Monday. If it comes up the coast by sea, snow. By land, rain. I'm hoping for rain. Quote
