Adam Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 (edited) My current contender for most audacious and brilliant rhyming couplet may be found in the Parliament song "Ride on." Opinions may change on a whim. Cole Porter lyrics not allowed, as we all know how brilliant those are. Put a hump in your back Shake your sacroiliac Does anything describe dancing to funk better? Your contenders, please? Pop, rock, funk, blues, jazz - all is good. Edited February 16, 2005 by Adam Quote
RDK Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Adam, a version of that "sacroiliac" line goes back to "The Hucklebuck," maybe even earlier. Great one, though. A favorite of mine is from Jimmy Webb's "Wichita Lineman" - "And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time" Then there's Dylan... Quote
Sundog Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 I could fill up this thread with Kinks "Kouplets" but I'll resist the urge and give you just one of my very favorites from the song Better Days Here's hoping all the days ahead won't be as bitter as the ones behind you Be an optimist instead and somehow happiness will find you.... Brandon Burke Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 (edited) She stripped away her rancid poncho And laid out naked by the door We did it till we were un-concho And it was useless anymore "Un-concho" is hilarious. I love ever-so-slighly manipulated pronunciations like that. Just to make something rhyme. Reminds me of the time Jonathan Richman rhymed "laundry pile" with "card [tay-bile]". Adam Posted February 18, 2005 Author Report Posted February 18, 2005 She stripped away her rancid poncho And laid out naked by the door We did it till we were un-concho And it was useless anymore Sure. In fact, heck, get rid of my Cole Porter condition as well. The world has too many rules; who needs one in a thread that will hardly get visited anyway? And it ain't a competition. But they've got to be rhyming couplets! Quote
