Stefan Wood Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 Yeah, I ordered 12 of the Jazz in Paris series as well. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 Such great deals there. . . I wish I hadn't paid more for most of the series before finding them on sale at DG! My last purchase from DG was "Brown Sugar" by Freddie Roach, and the "Shorty Rogers Quintet featuring Jeri Southern". . . . Quote
ralphie_boy Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 Bought a few nice platters from them lately at decent prices. I got a nice (VG+) copy of Stanley T's Dearly Beloved (Blue&White Liberty Stereo) for $13. I also picked up a great copy of Shirley Scott's Queen of the Organ for $5 (Original Impulse; cover wear, but VG++ vinyl). Quote
Soulstation1 Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 (edited) my first order from those sob's i can't wait to hear this puppy ss1 Edited June 17, 2005 by Soulstation1 Quote
jazzbo Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 Those BASTARDS! (The Lone Hill PIRATE BASTARDS I mean!) Guess this has the King and the Roulette lps on it. . . . Quote
Soulstation1 Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 is this cd a bootleg of some sort?? i don't know anything about this cd, other than lock & shirl ss1 Quote
jazzbo Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 It comes from a Spanish company . . . it's not an authorized release from the Roulette vaults. Turns out it's two Roulette lps on one cd, good deal, good music, not really legit (but I'm living in a glass house and not throwing stones). Went to Dusty and ordered the new Ed Motta cd and the cd of Elis Regina at the Montreux Jazz Festival that always seemed to be out of stock when I wanted to order it before! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 I tried to order The Magic of Ju-Ju on LP but, as I can't check my hotmail at work, have no idea whether I beat out the 37 other people who want that record. Be curious to hear Shepp and Zwerin doing "Sorry 'Bout That," if nothing else... perfect tune for free-&-B. Quote
montg Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 I ordred the TOCJ of Hutcherson's 'Happenings' and Freddie Roach's Brown Sugar. Great service--ordered thursday night and it was in the mail Friday morning. SInce I live in Illinois I hope they arrive tomorrow. Quote

I have all those except the AEC one (not a fan) and you're in for some really good listening. I love that Roulette Betty Carter, it's full of almost three complete albums that are not in print here in the states, and "Out There with Betty Carter" was part of the Impulse "I Can't Help it" two lps on one cd that is now out of print. The Rostaing/Meunier was surprisingly good to me as well! Quote
jlhoots Posted July 6, 2005 Report Posted July 6, 2005 (edited) Blood Ulmer: Tales Of Captain Black Pete LaRoca: Turkish Women at the Bath CD with Gilmore Both scheduled for delivery today. Edited July 6, 2005 by jlhoots Quote
sidewinder Posted July 6, 2005 Report Posted July 6, 2005 Roland Kirk -- Slightly Latin Great buy ! Can never work out why this one is so under-rated. Quote

The Rostaing/Meunier was surprisingly good to me as well! ← Uh oh I already have that Impulse. Should have double checked on this one. Perhaps I could request to substitute with another disc, if not too late. I guess a second copy wouldn't hurt since this was what got me hooked on her singing. Serves me right for buying from the "pirates" I suppose. Thanks Lon. Quote
LAL Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 Roland Kirk -- Slightly Latin Great buy ! Can never work out why this one is so under-rated. ← Looking forward to it, as with numerous other Kirk albums on the way. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 (edited) LAL, sorry that happened. I wish I had ten bucks for every time it happened to ME. It's got one very cool cover though! I have been on a sort of Betty Carter binge lately, snapping up some OOP titles from "The Verve Vault." Well, the Ed Motta dvd came back in stock so I ordered that. . .The cds he's put out the last few years are so great I imagine this dvd from 2004 is as well. Edited July 7, 2005 by jazzbo Quote
jazzbo Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 Forgot, I also ordered this with the Motta dvd, to feed my growing McRae addiction. . . . Quote
Ron S Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 (edited) to feed my growing McRae addiction. . . . . . . which apparently is contagious. Thanks to your recent raves, I picked up "Sarah--Dedicated to You" and "The Great American Songbook" from yourmusic.com (I know--different thread). Edited July 7, 2005 by Ron S Quote
jazzbo Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 Yeah. . . sorry in some ways to be spreading my illness. . . but it's got a lot of happy symptoms! Quote
LAL Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 LAL, sorry that happened. I wish I had ten bucks for every time it happened to ME. It's got one very cool cover though! I have been on a sort of Betty Carter binge lately, snapping up some OOP titles from "The Verve Vault." Well, managed to cancel the Betty Carter disc and replace it with an early Andrew Hill disc (one "pirated" for another ). And someone beat me to the Betty Carter Roulette Years. Done. No more visiting Dusty's website for the next 10 months. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 any tips on this? wondering if the readings are pretty straight and that this might be a simple quick re-hash record despite the cast, but i've been so knoocked out by the truly original 'Satan in High Heels' that it could be hard to resist. sheldonm Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 ...headin' to see the Bastards this weekend! Quote
