Card delivered for Hitler

The German Postal Service has delivered a card addressed to Adolf Hitler 60 years after his death.

The card had been sent from the UK and was addressed "To Führer Adolf Hitler, Reichstag, German Parliament, Berlin, Germany."

It arrived at the German Parliamentary building with a Postal Service comment saying it had been "re-addressed because of faulty address."

According to Spiegel Online, parliament officials think the Postal Service has displayed bad taste.

But a post spokesman told the website it wasn't up to them to decide not to deliver mail.

A spokesman said: "As long as an address exists, cards and letters will still be delivered, regardless of whether the person they are intended for is still alive."

I guess that's truely a fake as I last week send some parcel to friends with German Postal Services to Lübeck and by mistake I did the Number wrong so instead of 51 I wrote 1 only and the package went back to me within 2days.... so they are fast but not that accurate.;)

I suspect that they have tried to deliver it first to Austria but that H-Politian has refused it...B-)

Cheers, Tjobbe

It happens to be true about having to deliver no matter how long ago it was written. I discussed a story I saw in Sports Illustrated with the head of our mailroom. The story was that someone got their copy 20 years after it was published and I asked why bother. His reply was that under the laws of most countries if you don't deliver the mail no matter when it was postmarked it's a crime. He mentioned to me a story where someone mailed a postcard from Italy and it arrived 20 years later. By this time, the people who had sent it had died and their children had moved away but a neighbor had kept in touch with the kids and had the p.o. forward it on to them. So these things do happen.
