Brandon Burke Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 ...while cruising around North Beach in SF. (Sorry about the focus. I don't use a flash at night.) Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 That is the same sign that's on the cover too. I went and checked. Wild! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 I was just wondering if Wal*Mart had a Super Size image of this one, and they do!!! For easy comparison... ULTRA cool!!! B-) B-) B-) Quote

Peter Johnson Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 God damn! Just out of the blue? How much ass does that kick! Well done, BB! Quote
Soul Stream Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Can't believe someone hasn't stolen that thing over the years. Quote
Brandon Burke Posted February 8, 2005 Author Report Posted February 8, 2005 Can't believe someone hasn't stolen that thing over the years. Someone probably did. It's not the same sign. Font is different. But very clearly the same address. Quote
wesbed Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Every time I see the Grant Green album cover I wonder if the street sign is real. I always thought, if the sign is real, it's somewhere in New York City. Probably somewhere, by chance, near the Blue Note offices. I figured the street sign would be different these days, no longer in the same style as it was then, if it existed at all. It's interesting to learn the street sign is real and is located in San Francisco. What a find! Thanks for posting the picture. Quote
Jim R Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 God damn! Just out of the blue? No, that's this one: Quote
bertrand Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 (edited) I was in S.F. in 1995 and tried to take the same picture, but it fucked up: my wife had forgotten to change the film, so all my pictures of San Francisco were superimposed on pictures of Paris! Isn't the intersection is in the Chinatown district? At least that's what I dimly recall. Who is credited for the photo on the Blue Note album? I doubt Frank Wolff flew all the way out there just to take the picture. Bertrand. Edited February 8, 2005 by bertrand Quote
Claude Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Thanks for the great find, Brandon. Do they really call it the "street of dreams"? Quote
robviti Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 God damn! Just out of the blue? No, that's this one: or maybe this one? B-) Quote

JSngry Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Who is credited for the photo on the Blue Note album? Jim Marshall. Wonder if it's the cat who used to play for the Vikings, the Wrong-Way Corrigan of the NFL? Quote
Big Al Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Can't believe someone hasn't stolen that thing over the years. Someone probably did. It's not the same sign. Font is different. But very clearly the same address. Or maybe they just updated the signs over the years. Street sign maintenance and upkeep, y'know! Regardless, that is one hella cool picture!!! Quote
Aggie87 Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 or this one? (ok, i'm done playin') Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Next time I'm in SF, I'm going to check this out. Too cool! Quote
Big Al Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 or this one? (ok, i'm done playin') From what I hear, the former "Debbie" Gibson's Playboy spread kinda gives new meaning to the "blue" in the above title........ Quote
BFrank Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 (edited) Hey, I could'a told you guys about that! You should'a asked. B-) It's in the neighborhood known as "North Beach", which is adjacent to Chinatown. And (as mentioned) it's also a couple of blocks away from the old Keystone Korner, which was on Vallejo St. between Stockton & Powell. (on the corner of Emery Ln., on the map that Rooster posted) The sign that used to get stolen all the time was the one at Haight & Ashbury. They have since split them up onto two entirely different sign posts. Unfortunately, I don't think that Grant Green has that same kind of name recognition. Edited February 8, 2005 by BFrank Quote
