Big Wheel
Saw a cheapo copy of the original Savoy CD the other day. Has there been a remaster yet of this?
Dan Gould
I don't know, but I think those purple-cover Savoy reissues of several years ago sound pretty decent, and its a fine disc. I would pounce!
scottb
There were two releases of this one in the US, 1992 and 2003. The 2003 had two bonus tracks but I can't tell if the mastering was any different. Edited February 7, 2005 by scottb
Son-of-a-Weizen
There was.......I've got a 20-bit remaster in mini-lp format.
jazzbo
Yes, there was a 16 bit Savoy Denon in a jewelcase, there was a 20 bit lp facimile released after that, and then a few years back Savoy/Atlantic released this with 24 bit remastering by Paul Reid III. I haven't bought this; I've been happy with the 20 bit lp facmilie I bought (had the 16 bit before that!)
Sundog
Listening to the 24 bit version right now. My first impression of the overall sound is your typical RVG late 50's sound. Upon further review my characterization of the sound couldn't be much better since the liner notes indicate that this was recorded by Rudy, at his Hackensack studio on 5/25/59. mailman
For my money there is way too much concentration on mastering and remastering here. The music on this recording is terrific. If you don't own it, buy it.

jazzbo
Mailman, you are right, this is great music, all those Savoy Fullers are worth a listen, but I think this one is the best!
BruceH
Most assuredly a great album. What do people here think of the re-recording (from 1993 I believe)? I really like it a lot.

Was that Bluesette Part 2 or something like that? If that's it, I've always preferred the first one myself.

Well, sure, if your getting only one, get the original, by all means. But the latterday one is quite enjoyable I think. Maybe, it's just the Curtis Fuller fan in me, but there you have it. ejp626
Gotta agree with Dan here. Bluesette is better of course, but I also like Bluesette II. Kind of a warm recording. Amazing really that they got almost all the original performers back together.
