Digging Chris Squires Fish Out of Water reissue with a bonus DVD. Antique promo videos and a recent interview with the Fish himself. :tup

How is this? I've never actually heard the album, but the writes are generally very good. Is it in the league of the Yes material of that time?

I'd say so. Squire, Bruford, Moraz...sounds like Yes to me.

From an interview here:

Music Street Journal: What's going on with King Crimson these days?

Pat Mastelotto: Robert has made the call to start up again and, while nothing is fixed we are planning to begin rehearsals next year - a few weeks at a time and lead up to some residence gigs, no long tours, and at this point Robert doesn't want to play outside the USA. We will be a 5 piece and i think you know 4 of us. In fact I'm sure you know the 5th man too (an incredible drummer that i will be delighted to work with). I think you'll have to tune in to Robert's diary over at the DGM site and await the official announcement.

The 4 would be Fripp, Belew, Levin, and Mastelotto. There's some speculation in some Porcupine Tree circles that the fifth member may be Gavin Harrison, PT's drummer. Fripp did some work with Harrison earlier this year, back in May.

At least he didn't also try to add a second bassist.

Just bought one of my friends the King Crimson - 21st Century Guide To King Crimson Vol. 1 (4 CD set) and he's really been blown away by it. I was very impressed by the remastering which is INCREDIBLE, I never knew the debut album could sound that good. There are some "edits" of longer tracks but it's still a nice starter set with a very cool booklet and a fine collection of live material spanning the 69-74 era.

Progressive-Rock Fans Are Terrible Trash-Talkers.

BY WAYNE GLADSTONE

- - - -

"Hey, buddy, what does your continued existence have in common with the trees in Rush's 'The Trees'? Neither should be taken literally."

"OK, dude. You beating the crap out of me is like Peter Gabriel doing another album with Genesis: everyone keeps talking about it, but it's never gonna happen."

"When I'm done with you, you won't be able to keep track of whether it was Bruford or White that played drums on 'Heart of the Sunrise.'"

"You're gonna need so many transfusions that only King Crimson will have benefited more by the influx of new blood. Seriously, don't you think it was like a whole new band when Adrian Belew joined?"

"Your ass-kicking is gonna be just like 'Karn Evil 9': loud, fast, and perfected in one take ... except it won't go on for 29 minutes and 37 seconds, as it did in the original release."

"Don't be alarmed by the bustle in your hedgerow, Cochise. That's just a spring clean for the May queen!"

"Kickin' your ass is gonna be a lot easier than the guitar part in 'YYZ.' No joke, some of that shit's in, like, 10/8. Man, Alex Lifeson is underrated."

"Get ready to look like the lead singer of Marillion. When you walk down the street, very few people will be able to recognize you."

acid mothers temple or boredoms anyone?

I guess not. I'm not sure they're prog bands.

eh. japanese noise wank. definitely falls somewhere in prog. but no, not your typical prog band like Yes or Pink Floyd or Tool

Japanese noise wank isn't prog rock. It's noise. It's wank. Sounds like it would be at home in the Psychedelic Rock drawer.

For example, Pink Floyd is not a progrock band.

well, they definitely have prog rock albums.

have you heard animals? about as traditional proggy as it gets

and bands like amt def still adhere to prog principals. long indulgent ever changing songs, concept albums.

Of course I've heard Animals. I heard them play it at Madison Sq. Garden in '77. PF isn't - for me - complex enough to be a progrock band.
