Jim Alfredson Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 So they're playing Dracula on CineMax, the one from 1992 directed by Francis Ford Coppolla. I remember seeing this in the theatre when I was 15 (yeah, I'm young) and thinking, "THAT WAS COOL!" This is the first time I've seen it since. Criminey bejesus, Keanu Reeves is frickin' horrible. He's like the Kenny G of acting. Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 He has the acting range of a piece of Balsa wood. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 4, 2005 Author Report Posted February 4, 2005 Actually I think it's less. The worse part is his foe English accent. When it's that bad, why not just go the Kevin Costner route ala Robin Hood and not bother? How did Copolla get caught up in this? Quote
wolff Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Yes, he stinks. The only time I thought he was okay was in "Leaving Minnesota". Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Coppola was probably trying to get the MTV generation into the theatre. If that's the case Francis obviously made a big mistake. Reeves should be an automatic shoo in for a Razzy every time he makes a film. Quote
Big Al Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 He has the acting range of a piece of Balsa wood. Hey! I've seen trees with greater acting range! Let's not lump them all together now! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 4, 2005 Author Report Posted February 4, 2005 So Dracula is in London now. I like how Gary Oldman is all pimped out and looks like a cross between Huggie Bear and the lead singer of Blind Melon. WTF? Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 He has the acting range of a piece of Balsa wood. Hey! I've seen trees with greater acting range! Let's not lump them all together now! Maybe I was being too rough. At least trees can grow. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 4, 2005 Author Report Posted February 4, 2005 Winona Ryder looks like the kid from Star Trek: The Next Generation. I just noticed that. Will Wheaton? Is that his name? I changed my mind. Gary Oldman is a cross between Huggie Bear and Ozzy. Quote
LennyH Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 He was fine in the first Matrix, but by the end of the 3rd movie I was rooting for destruction of the earth. My vote for worst Keanu Reeves performance has to be "Much Ado About Nothing". What on earth was Kenneth Branaugh thinking? Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Winona looks like Wesley Crusher-really? Maybe they should have busted him at that swank shop!!! And let's face it Oldman on his worst days has more uh! er! "bite" in his acting range than Reeves on his best days. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Dracula is LIKE horrible. UH...I never enjoyed that version. The actor I can't take is Kevin Costner. He makes Keanu seem dynamic. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 4, 2005 Author Report Posted February 4, 2005 Oldman and Hopkins are the only thing good in this movie. That and the effects. Anyone remember the SNL with Sinbad hosting that was on around the time Dracula came out? One of the sketches was "Brahm Stoker's Blackula" and Sinbad had a big afro "butt" on his head, just like Oldman in the movie. It was frickin' hilarious! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 4, 2005 Author Report Posted February 4, 2005 This movie sucks. I'm watching The Daily Show. Quote
Ron S Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Keanu's greatest triumph was "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." It's been all downhill from there. Quote
Big Al Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Keanu's greatest triumph was "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." It's been all downhill from there. Dude, that wasn't acting, though! Quote
Big Al Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Winona Ryder looks like the kid from Star Trek: The Next Generation. I just noticed that. Winona Ryder.... right up there with Keanu Reeves when it comes to acting range. I never saw "Much Ado," but I figure it's gotta be as laughable as "Dangerous Liaisons," no? Quote
Free For All Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 The worse part is his foe English accent. I think you mean faux but I like your version better. Quote
Ron S Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Keanu's greatest triumph was "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure."Â It's been all downhill from there. Dude, that wasn't acting, though! You're right, Dude! [as we play air-guitar together] Quote
RDK Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Criminey bejesus, Keanu Reeves is frickin' horrible. He's like the Kenny G of acting. That's a perfect summation of his talents and popularity. Bad as he is, the dude can open a movie. Quote
scottb Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Keanu is dollar for dollar the worst actor EVER! Heck, forget the money, I don't think that guy could walk off the street and get a bit part in a Rogers Arkansas Little Theater production. The fact that people keep putting him in movies is beyond me. I have no idea what the draw is. He's not overly handsome, or sweet, or funny, or good at action scenes, just overly BORING. Thank God you all feel this way as well. When I mention how bad he is usually at least someone there defends him. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Thank God you all feel this way as well. When I mention how bad he is usually at least someone there defends him. It's nice to be among friends. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Hmmm.... I just thought of something. We live in a world where an actor like Keanu Reeves: 1 - Makes $20 million a picture. 2 - Is treated like a god Dude... We're IN the matrix. It all makes sense man (with my best Dennis Hopper Apocolypse Now inflection)! They've gotten into our MINDS! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 4, 2005 Author Report Posted February 4, 2005 The only reason he worked in the first Matrix is because the character spent half the movie being confused. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 The only reason he worked in the first Matrix is because the character spent half the movie being confused. That's the truth!!!! Keanu is a genius at playing "the confused guy." I can just picture what he's thinking while acting. Uh... pretend that I'm high so I'll appear confused .... oh yeah.... I am high.... and I'm confused.... what.... oh yeah.... okay Quote
