Eloe Omoe Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 It's a quartet with Chris Potter, John Taylor and Dave Holland. No drums. All tracks by Wheeler, recorded in NYC last June. Label is CamJazz (CAMJ 7768-2). After a couple of spins, it sounds to me like one of the best Wheeler CDs in a long time. I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Luca Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 Many thanks, Eloe. I didn't know about that release. Kenny seems to be working in overdrive at present. You can listen online to a broadcast from his recent 75th Birthday Big Band Orchestra UK tour here (until Friday): http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/jazz/ ******** Great label, CamJazz, by the way! Quote
king ubu Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 Sounds good, thanks for the heads up! ubu Quote
Eloe Omoe Posted January 30, 2005 Author Report Posted January 30, 2005 I didn't know about that release. Kenny seems to be working in overdrive at present. Thanks for the link, Bev. BTW, we at Musica Jazz magazine will be having a big feature on Kenny in our April issue, with a 16-page retrospective and a CD with some unissued tracks. As soon as the tracklist is ready, I'll put it here. Luca Quote
alankin Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 (edited) His recent CAMJazz duet with pianist John Taylor, Where Do We Go From Here? is also very nice. Edited January 31, 2005 by alankin Quote
alankin Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 And here's a pic I took in Philadelphia back in Dec. 2001 when he was a young lad (only 72) -- Quote
Green Dolphin Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Saw this as forthcoming on an insert in the above duo set, great that it's out already...just put an order in from the label along with the new Pieranunzi.Good prices too-12.96 euros!!! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 There's another beautiful new Pieranunzi on the marvellous Egea label: Highly recommended! And, of course, Egea also has a nice Wheeler recording. Quote
Eric Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 iTunes has the Kenny Wheeler lp/cd/whatever for $7.92. Has anyone seen it online for a comparable price? Quote
Green Dolphin Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 Highly unlikely, unless you could get it second hand-trouble with itunes downloads is all you get is a 128kps version,no artwork and zero resale value-if ipod is your main listening device then it's a bargain-£7.99 here in the UK!!!It's $16.92 for the disc direct from camjazz Quote
