Ron S Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 [Notice how in the above 3 posts, the Southwest and West Coast boys like the East Coast labels, and the East Coast boy likes the West Coast label.] Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Argo. Go figure that one out. East coast boy likes Chicago label. Quote
Jim R Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 [Notice how in the above 3 posts, the Southwest and West Coast boys like the East Coast labels, and the East Coast boy likes the West Coast label.] B-) Well, I was thinking in terms of other labels under the Concord umbrella ( the "Concord umbrella"... did I just say that?), and you had already said Contemporary. But like Lon, there's a LOT o' labels I dig, west and east. ... but everybody knows BN is better than Prestige. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 I really meant to say Jazz Oracle, Canadian! Quote
Jim R Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 I really meant to say Jazz Oracle, Canadian! Oh, that reminds me... "north and south" too. In the south, we can't forget about Odeon, Elenco, Philips, RGE, Lumiar, etc etc B-) Quote
Ron S Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Looks like Jazz Kat gets no respect. We've totally trashed the premise of his thread. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 28, 2005 Author Report Posted January 28, 2005 Argo. . They didn't put out that many "classics", but some cool obscure albums came from Argo. Ahmad Jamal's At The Pershing was probaly their most famous and successful release. NOt including the three boys from Chicago, The Ramsey Lewis Trio. I love Argo! Quote
Brad Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 I think his thread got trashed because the music from both labels has been great. There have been some threads about why BN was better but Chris who worked for Prestige has thrown water on it. There was great music coming out from everywhere and I probably have almost as much of the Fantasy labels (Prestige, Riverside, Contemporary, New Jazz) as I do of Blue Note. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 28, 2005 Author Report Posted January 28, 2005 Yes, all the big companies had great music, BN, Prestige, Argo/Cadet, Riverside, Contemporary, Fantasy, Verve etc. but the poll was which one do you like better. Just supposed to be fun. Quote
Leeway Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 You might be able to have some fun with the question if you rework it a bit; for example: You have just won the Grand Prize, your choice of the entire catalog of CDs issued by Blue Note or Prestige. You must choose one; which would it be? Quote

An Inside-the-Beltway question, if ever I've heard one. Quote

catesta Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Okay, so I voted. It looks like BN is running away with it. What else comes with the grand prize? Quote
