Jim Alfredson Posted July 18, 2005 Report Posted July 18, 2005 I got the Jimmy Foster DVDs today! Gonna give 'em a spin and see what's cookin'. I'll report back later... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 I'm watching them right now! Volume 3 is pretty cool because he breaks down some runs. He likes to play in G. For the beginner, this might not be the DVDs to get. He doesn't really go into any detail about why things work. But for me, I can watch him and understand why he's doing what he's doing. He's very bluesy. Reminds me of McGriff. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted July 19, 2005 Author Report Posted July 19, 2005 jim all i can do is turn my hammond on i took the pedals off and now can't seem to get them back on i don't want to mess up/bend those metal things on the very end it's kind of a sad story, it just sits there and collects dust i'll send some pics of the a-100 with your deep blue cd Quote
Robert J Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 Jim - as a piano player would I get any value from it - ie, the gospel stuff, etc. Looks interesting. Though my Roland FP3 has some B3 sounds, there's just the one keyboard. Would I still get greasy? e-bay feedback looks good. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 Yeah, I think so. Anyone who already knows their way around the keys will find some good stuff in there, especially a pianist. The left hand is especially interesting because he's "ghosting" which is what I've always done. You'll see what I mean if you buy it. Quote
Robert J Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 I wanted to make sure I knew what ghosting was - I was right. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 That's not really what I'm talking about. I'm talking about playing a left-hand walking bass line and putting in "ghost" notes on the upbeats. Usually it's a fifth, but it doesn't really matter because you're not really playing notes. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted September 5, 2005 Author Report Posted September 5, 2005 jim you play/know any basie songs? it seems like every organ player has recorded a basie song Quote
Soulstation1 Posted September 13, 2005 Author Report Posted September 13, 2005 (edited) jim do you use a surge protector with your hammond? Edited September 13, 2005 by Soulstation1 Quote

Herb Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 That's worth checking out regardless, if it isn't gone already. It's probably a cut down B. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted December 21, 2005 Author Report Posted December 21, 2005 i checked it out the organ wasn't a hammond as listed Quote
Herb Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Seller didn't know the difference or trying to find a sucker? Quote

Herb Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 I guess that would fall under the "didn't know any better" category......... Quote
Soulstation1 Posted December 30, 2005 Author Report Posted December 30, 2005 (edited) James Oscar this week someone is selling a hammond phoenix in the local paper WTH is dat? link to hammond http://www.tucsonweekly.com/gbase/Classifi...t?oid=oid:76851 Edited December 30, 2005 by Soulstation1 Quote
Herb Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 The "Phoenix" is a post tone wheel era all electronic POS almost identical to a Lowrey. One of the reasons for the downfall of Hammond IMO. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted January 8, 2006 Author Report Posted January 8, 2006 it took me 5 years to figure out posting pics my a-100 Quote
