scottb Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Your comment on the soundman seems to be the norm. Who are these guys? Why can't venues get people to run the boards who have a decent ear. I was so disappointed once seeing my friend's organ trio play. At one point you could hardly hear the organ!! Their setup is organ bass drums. If you can't hear the organ you're missing quite a bit! They never seem to get my buddy's bass right either. In that trio setting he ought to be heard as a featured instrument. If I knew how to run the board I would have gone over there and shoved that dude out the way! He ruined the whole show. Quote

neveronfriday Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 (edited) This is a fascinating thread. It has a live action feel to it. Am following it closely, although I will never have the instrument myself. I can only bang on cans. Keep 'em coming. Cheers! Edited March 1, 2005 by deus62 Quote
7/4 Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 What is that large black box on the floor? Quote
Soul Stream Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 That's the back of the hollow box that holds the expression pedal. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Good one, Soul Stream. We can't let them know that it's the sequencer, allowing us to play pre-loaded Jimmy Smith licks with the touch of a butto.... I mean.... yeah... it's the volume pedal box. Quote
Soul Stream Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 ...and we also won't tell them that the "presets" are just pre-recorded songs...the A natural is Back At The Chicken Shack A flat is Misty G natural is More Today Than Yesterday, ect. ....you know Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Yeah, the damn thing pretty much plays itself... all we have to do is look like we're doing something. B-) Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 The NI B4 is pretty cool. I've already decided that if Organissimo goes overseas, I'm carrying my laptop and a copy of that program as a back-up! Quote

I'll have to look at it again, those drawbars never made sense to me in the past, maybe I've learned something recently that will help. Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 If ya wanna learn your church stops, sure! And by church, we're not talking gospel! Quote
Soul Stream Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 Soulstation, stops are really best learned by experimenting with them. Play middle C and pull each stop out seperately and get an idea of what each bar sounds like. But in all honesty, I hardly mess with the stops that much. Sans for a few really distinctive settings like Jimmy Smith's "Erroll Garner thing" or McDuff's "piano sound"...the first 3 or 4 pretty much say it all. The last drawbar can add "whistle"...or All Stops Out for the "big band" chord sound or nice single note stuff with that one too.... Like Charles Earland said..."mess with the drawbars enough and you can pretty much nail anybody's sound" Quote
