Herb Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 Is that how they were set when you got it or how you like to use them? I'm partial to the C3 vib. setting and the 3rd harmonic perc. But then again, there ain't no bad settings one one of these critters! Quote
Soul Stream Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 (edited) Dude, you need to change them settings. Drawbars, perc. and vibrato looked pretty...uh..."unique". I guess 2nd harmonic's no big deal. But C1...and your lower harmonics pushed all the way in made me think of a roller rink.... Of course maybe you were experimenting that day of the photo op.... But for a guy with a Jimmy picture on your signature, Jimmy would smack the back of your head if he saw that! Edited January 15, 2006 by Soul Stream Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 jim can you play "take me out to the ball game"? i heard it at a spring training game last week I think the more pertinent question is, why would I want to? Quote
Free For All Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 can you play "take me out to the ball game"? Not even at gunpoint! Quote
Soulstation1 Posted May 22, 2006 Author Report Posted May 22, 2006 it this for an 8-track tape? it's a pic from a hammond phoenix Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 No, they put a tape deck in there so you could play along to tunes. Organ kareoke. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted July 18, 2006 Author Report Posted July 18, 2006 stupid question is the leslie powered through the hammond or does it have it's own power cord Quote
Soulstation1 Posted December 25, 2006 Author Report Posted December 25, 2006 could i run a Talk Box through a lesie or better yet through my a-100? Quote
Soulstation1 Posted December 25, 2006 Author Report Posted December 25, 2006 WARNING: The only bad thing about the TalkBox is that it rattles your teeth around! with my grill being all jacked-up, i better stay away from the TalkBox...... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 stupid question is the leslie powered through the hammond or does it have it's own power cord Powered through the Hammond. Actually, the new Leslies are self-powered, with their own cord that plugs into the wall. It actually makes more sense... less noise in the audio signal lines and it is safer. Quote
Herb Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 That is an improvement, Jim. Mine are early sixties models, as a matter of fact every one I ever had was early sixties........... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Mine are all old ones, too. But the new ones are a bit different. I think it is a better idea, although it is always convenient on the gig to plug in the power cord for the organ, plug the organ into the Leslie, and GO! Quote
Soulstation1 Posted December 26, 2006 Author Report Posted December 26, 2006 what about the talk box question? also jim do you have a cover or something for your hammond? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 You could hook a Talk Box up to a Hammond but it would require a line-output of some sort. When I moved my B3 I used a moving blanket to cover it and then a fitted cover that I bought from eBay. Now that I use the Hammond XK System, I have road cases for the organ manuals. Quote
Jim R Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Okay, I'm clueless, but this looks pretty darned interesting: Hammond HR-40 tone cabinet Belongs to Dr. Lonnie Smith...? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 If the guy is in San Fran, how could this be Dr. Lonnie Smith's? Lonnie lives in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Quote
Jim R Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 If the guy is in San Fran, how could this be Dr. Lonnie Smith's? Lonnie lives in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It's actually in San Jose. Anyway, beats the hell outta me. Just wondered if this thing was desirable at all... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 An HR-40? No, it's junk. I have one sitting in my garage. It sounds like poo-poo. The only decent tone cabinet that Hammond made was the PR-40. Quote
Soul Stream Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 If the guy is in San Fran, how could this be Dr. Lonnie Smith's? Lonnie lives in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I think Lonnie spends some good time several times a year in San Fran with organist Wil Blades. So I wouldn't be surprised if this is for real. I think Lonnie has a place in NYC he stays as well as Florida, but to be honest, the world seems to be his real home as he has people and organs stashed in every port. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 Just got this email from my good friend Pete Fallico: Apparently some one saw my recent ad on Craig’s list to ‘get rid’ of an HR-40 tone cabinet that I had. I mentioned that it belonged to Lonnie Smith because it did. About a year ago, Lonnie and I were driving up El Camino Real (Mt. View, CA) in my van and I suggested that we stop at this music store (called ‘The Starving Musician’) because I had heard they had a Hammond B-3 for sale. Well, we walked in and saw the B-3 at the far end of the room. Lonnie sat at it and started it up. It had a Hammond HR-40 tone cabinet connected to it. I asked how much they wanted for it and when they said $1995 Lonnie said “I’m buying it” (He knew that if he hadn’t said it, I would have!) So, to make a long story short, we bought it and I wound up storing the organ and HR-40 in my garage with three other organs. Just last month my wife asked me to get rid of something so I elected to sell the HR-40 for Lonnie. When I asked him if I could, he was all in favor of it. I only got $50 for it but I thought that was fifty dollars more than what it was worth. Lonnie and I took the organ to Bob Schleicher who put a Leslie switch and Trek reverb on it. I still keep it at my place as Lonnie’s ‘Bay Area organ’ So that’s the true story. Yes, Lonnie has a house in Ft. Lauderdale and yes, he keeps an apartment in NYC and yes, he has friends all over the country like me who put him up for weeks at a time. He’s one of my very best friends. Thanks, Pete So I was wrong. It actually did belong to Dr. Lonnie Smith. They still sound like poo, though! And I still have one sitting in my garage. Forgive me, Pete! Quote
