Ron S Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 Well at least there were no problems with my 2 favorite tracks, "Kabul-stone" and "Afghan Alto." Quote
Brad Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Hmm. Mine hasn't gotten here yet. I'm about to call Mosaic. Quote

Brad Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 I just called Mosaic today and they said the Selects should be in shortly. They apparently have not yet arrived. Quote
Ron S Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 Well, SOME people have already gotten them. Quote
Brad Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 I'm just conveying the news. Don't kill the messenger, Mr. S Quote
garthsj Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 My Pepper Select (together with the Woody Herman) arrived this morning. I feel justified in selling my original "Pepper Returns" on Jazz West several years ago for nearly $400 to a Japanese collector on eBay. The remastering is superb, and certainly better than fifties vinyl in this case ... It is amazing to me how wonderful some of these fifties "west coast" albums sound with remastering today. Even without remastering Pacific Jazz and Contemporary albums sound so far superior to East Coast labels at the same time, of course IMHO ... so flame away! Quote
etherbored Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 can someone comment on the mastering as compared to the recent SBJC's (Super Bit Jazz Classics)? thanks in advance, -e- Quote

I always marvel at the sound of, e.g., Contemporary recordings from the late '50's, with or without the latest 20-bit K2 remastering. My favorite examples of that are the 5 "Shelly Manne at the Black Hawk" CD's (hmmm, wonder if that has anything to do with my avatar? ), which haven't been remastered since their first CD issue in the early '90's, but which--to me, at least--have sound that is unsurpassed. rostasi Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Well, SOME people have already gotten them. From Mosaic about the Andrew Hill: "No need to reorder and we expect to ship at the end of this week." Regards, Mosaic Records --- Now playing: Dexter Gordon - Come Rain Or Come Shine Quote

rostasi Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 (edited) So what's going to happen to the 30 "reorders" I've placed over the past few days? Clarify: When I placed my last order, I asked for the Hill too. Since it didn't come with yesterday's shipment, I wrote to ask whether I needed to reorder the Hill or will it just come when it comes out. That quote was their answer. rod --- Now playing: Dexter Gordon - Gingerbread Boy Edited February 15, 2005 by rostasi Quote

Brad Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 I guess they must have shipped them by preorder priority first and since I didn't order until about a week or so ago, I guess that explains it. Quote

No Brad .... they ship according to your membership number ... the lower the number the greater the privileges you get! Mine is #1293 ... what's yours?? Quote

Guest Chaney Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Set no. 680 also sounds mighty fine. Mr. McMaster seems to have done a fine job. I believe that the boys and girls who've ordered this set will be very happy. HEAR YE, HEAR YE! From this day forward, let no man impugn the talents of Ron McMaster! At least not on this set. Oh yea.............and the music is sweet! Quote

garthsj Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 WOW! DOUBLE WOW!!! I have just listened to disc 3 .. what I call the "Omega material" which was originally released only on Omega tapes ... the only jazz taped album I ever purchased ... perhaps that is why it sounds so great. Carl Perkins on piano is just fantastic. I have had several iterations of this music since the mid-fifties, and I have NEVER hear it with this much clarity and presence .... So far this is a great set .. by far the favorite among all my selects. I have just one complaint ... the answer to which is obvious -- space ... but what a pity that they could not have included that album with Marty Paich on piano originally on the Tampa label. I would love to hear a remaster of that album. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 My set DID arrive last night. I like the sound, but I don't really feel it is much of an improvement over the earlier cds by Addey. I really have the feeling that had Addey had the job to redo these they'd be better. Got the two new Water reissues as well and they sound FANTASTIC! Quote
