Hardbopjazz Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 (edited) Just wondering how large member's jazz collections are. Edited January 26, 2005 by Hardbopjazz Quote
WD45 Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 My count varies greatly, as I caught the trading bug early on. I have over 750 now, but have traded/sold at least as many. It's an illness... Quote
BbM7 Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 10K+, if those slabs of vinyl count. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Just cd's? I think we'll all understand if you don't know what a record is Rod --- Now playing: Can - Halleluhwah Whatever that means, counting my vinyls I probaly got about 200. About 100 cd's and a 100 vinyls, I'm not really sure. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 It's a wonder they know what you're talking about when somebody says, "Why am I keep repeating myself. I sound like a broken record!" You would think they would of changed it to, 'skipping cd' by now. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Reminds me of my grandmother. "You know, Andrea Bocceli has a new record out now." Quote
jazzbo Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 (edited) We've done this a few times before! I chose the last option. Edited January 26, 2005 by jazzbo Quote
Ron S Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Do you mean individual pieces of plastic and vinyl? Or does a double or box set count as one? And you're excluding any nonjazz? We have to adequately define these terms to ensure this survey is scientific. Quote
WD45 Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 It's a wonder they know what you're talking about when somebody says, "Why am I keep repeating myself. I sound like a broken record!" You would think they would of changed it to, 'skipping cd' by now. Old habits die hard. Even reviewers who are staring at a shiny 5" disc call new releases "records" - "a review of ________'s new record" Rod --- Now playing: Can - Halleluhwah I use the term "records" all of the time, much to the confusion of those around me. It makes sense--at least as much sense as "albums" did when describing LPs, not albums of 78s as it used to. I look at it as a record of the artist's work. My mother-in-law calls them all tapes. CDs, LPs, the whole lot. Quote
Johnny E Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 It's not the size that matters, but the quality of your collection. It's just so happens that I have a exceptional (and quite LARGE) collection. My wife seems to enjoy it. She brags to her friends all the time. B-) Quote

Uncle Skid Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 If I count only my jazz CDs, I am currently the low man on the totem pole (251-500). This can only mean ONE THING!!! I'll get right on it!! Quote
brownie Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 I'm in the midst of reorganizing the CD collection. There should be something like between 3 and 4,000. And I also have double that amount of vinyl. I should have my head reorganized Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted January 26, 2005 Author Report Posted January 26, 2005 I ment just jazz CD's and records. But if you included all your collection, so be it. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 I dont have anything except jazz. Maybe a couple rock and roll stuff, but only from when I was real real young before I got into jazz. Quote
Brad Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 I'm around the 2000 range including lps. I'd like to know how someone with 10,000 gets to listen to all they have. I have that problem with what I have. Mind you, I've only been collecting 5-6 years. Quote

Jazz Kat Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 I used to buy a cd a week. Somehow that stopped. Quote
Johnny E Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 I'd like to know how someone with 10,000 gets to listen to all they have. Don't you realize how old Lon and Chuck are? Quote
Harold_Z Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 I use the term "records" all of the time, much to the confusion of those around me. Makes sense to me - they're all recordings Quote

B-) Then maybe some of her friends also would like to enjoy your collection? Funny you should say that. Sometimes my wife throws parties and her and all her girls friends lay around the house and enjoy my ample collection. Of course they all have different tastes. Some like the hard driving stuff. Others like the soft and slow approach. Luckily my collection has something for everybody. But I'll tell ya', those girls give my collection quite the workout. Some of them even want to listen to my record collection as well, but I save that for the mrs. Edited January 26, 2005 by Johnny E Quote
