RDK Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 I actually haven't had the chance to watch more than a few minutes of Idol this season, but I've Tivo'd it all so far, so I'm gonna have me an Idol Marathon this weekend! Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 27, 2005 Author Report Posted January 27, 2005 No. Same here. Only moreso. Same here, except even more than your moreso. I'm SO not watching this, that I didn't even know this crappy show was still on except I keep seeing Randy Jackson on talk shows. 5 years ago, you wouldn't have this, but now all of the sudden, Simon, Paula, and Randy Jackson have all had E True Hollywood Stories done on all three. Damn, those must have been some boring E true hollywood stories. Maybe if we can get that wrestler Chyna all cracked out to judge THEN I'd watch that goddamn show. THAT would be a good true hollywood story. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 27, 2005 Author Report Posted January 27, 2005 Not like I watched them.... Quote
Alexander Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 I listen to bad music because it's funny. I just don't buy it. Luckily you can get enough of it free via radio, just like free bad TV shows!! The musical term for singing a flurry of notes ala Mariah Carey is melisma. You can actually blame Stevie Wonder and other soul/R&B singers for that, but the difference is that they did it with taste. B.B. King was doing it before Stevie. I don't mind melisma at all, when it's done by someone who actually knows what they're doing. And while Whitney and Mariah kicked off the trend, it's the younger singers (Christina Agulara, for example) who have turned it into self-parody. Christina sings so many notes that she sounds like she's yodling. That's what the "American Idol" contestants emulate. Would that they would TRY to sing like Whitney or Mariah! They seem positively tasteful next to Christina or the latest AI bonehead! Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 28, 2005 Author Report Posted January 28, 2005 That jazz kat last season on American Idol!!! Even though he was a horrible singer, (sounded good cuz it was like sinatra, but he practically had no singing technique) he was my favorite. Even though when they made him sing all that garabge, it sounded bad, then they did the "Swing And Dance" music episode the week after he got booted. I bet he was kicking himself. Quote
JSngry Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Hearing today's use of melismatic singing is like hearing chefs on cooking shows saying "hal-a-peen-o". You know the muthafokkers ain't got a CLUE. Quote
