Rooster_Ties Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Herbie Hancock - SPEAK LIKE A CHILD The alternate of Goodbye To Childhood is worth its weight in gold, IMHO. It was previously only available on the Herbie BN boxset. Includes two other alternates as well. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Yes, this is really good news; love Speak Like a Child. Next I want Inventions and Dimensions to be RVG'd! I also am looking forward to Feelin' the Spirit, one of my favorite Blue Notes, and I've been living without the alternates since I got the JRVG and gave my domestic copy to Kevin. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 And the Horace Silver should be REVELATORY if the JRVG is any indication. Quote
Claude Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 "Label: Angel" ??? Does EMI think the Blue Note trademark isn't sexy anymore? Quote
mgraham333 Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Well, it's another batch of RVGs so that means a new spine logo design. Maybe we'll get really lucky and they'll redesign those back covers. I mean isn't everyone tired of seeing BLUE NOTE on there. And those classy photos have just got to go... Quote
BruceH Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Horace Silver - HORACE SILVER AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS It's about damn time! Quote
hutch head Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 How is Blakey's Like Someone in Love? I think this is the only Shorter-Morgan Messengers LP I don't have. Never even knew it existed until about a year ago. How many Lee and Wayne compositions are on it? Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Horace Silver - HORACE SILVER AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS It's about damn time! It has "Doodlin" on it. I'm looking forward to this one!!!!! Quote

hutch head Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Thanks ss1! What do you think of it compared to some of the other Messengers LPs? Quote
Soulstation1 Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 my blakey and the jazz messengers collection is really weak (less than 10 cds), but i have the mosaic set and imo there isn't a bad song on the entire set. i have a cdr of the 1988 release of like someone in love this is a nice cd, especially "sleeping dancer sleep on" ss1 Quote

Michael Fitzgerald Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 I believe all Jazz Messengers reissues have been held up because "Messengers" is a reference to Islam, taken from the Koran. Mike Quote
Swinging Swede Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 In case you've forgotten: Art Blakey - LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE Grant Green - FEELIN' THE SPIRIT Herbie Hancock - SPEAK LIKE A CHILD Wayne Shorter - NIGHT DREAMER Sonny Clark - DIAL S FOR SONNY Horace Silver - HORACE SILVER AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS I wonder if they're actually going to release all of these... Well, Feelin' The Spirit has the tune Joshua Fit De Battle Ob Jericho on it, and Jericho is a city in the Middle East, so the Grant Green clearly has to be cancelled. Speak Like A Child has a tune called Riot. There have been riots in Iraqi cities, so the Herbie Hancock can't be released either. But even worse is Night Dreamer which has a tune called Armageddon (gasp), as well as tunes called Black Nile and Oriental Folk Song. No Wayne Shorter either obviously. Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers. Hmm, Jazz Messengers sounds kind of like Jazz Crusaders, and we know what they think about crusaders in the Middle East. To be on the safe side it probably shouldn't be released either. The same goes for the Art Blakey. But at least we can look forward to the Sonny Clark RVG! Quote
wesbed Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 But at least we can look forward to the Sonny Clark RVG! I disagree. The letter 'S' reminds me of Saddam. Quote

ajnorman Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 Jazzbo mentioned wanting Inventions and Dimensions to get an RVG release - according to Jazzmatazz that's due in the summer of this year. Jazzmatazz Donald Byrd - Fuego (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Don Cherry - Symphony For Improvisers (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Bobby Hutcherson - Oblique (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Freddie Redd - Music From The Connection (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Art Blakey - The Big Beat (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Grant Green - Sunday Morning (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Herbie Hancock - Inventions and Dimensions (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer McCoy Tyner - Time For Tyner (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Blue Mitchell - Boss Horn (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Andrew Hill - Judgement (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Lonnie Smith - Think! (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Jimmy Smith - Jimmy Smith at the Organ, Vol. 3 (Blue Note RVG Edition) Summer Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 Why must we get ANOTHER CD of Symphony For Improvisers (mine says 1994) when there hasn't been ANY US BN CD of Where Is Brooklyn? I mean, I know the whole RVG thing is rerun city, but doesn't it seem logical to try to get the harder-to-find stuff out there? Mike Quote
Swinging Swede Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 Jazzbo mentioned wanting Inventions and Dimensions to get an RVG release - according to Jazzmatazz that's due in the summer of this year. No, it isn't. One tune on it is called Triangle. Haven't you heard of the Sunni triangle, the most dangerous area in Iraq? And another tune is called Mimosa. Not only is that an Asian tree, but it also stands next to 'minaret' in the dictionary. So it would clearly be too offensive to release the Hancock album now. Oh, and welcome to the board! Quote
Swinging Swede Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 Aha, Sunni Clark - Dial S for Saddam ... didn't think of that! But at least we can look forward to the summer RVGs (except the Hancock). Or can we? Quote
