Chrome Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Has anyone else heard this? It's Charlie Hunter on guitar, Bobby Previte on drums and other electronic stuff, and Greg Osby on sax. I just picked it up over the weekend and it's pretty cool ... some of it's almost ambient, some of its pretty funky ... recommended if you like your jazz mixed w/electronica. According to the liner notes, Hunter/Previte plan two more albums, each featuring a different third player, as kind of trilogy. Quote
ghost of miles Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 (edited) A smidgen of earlier discussion here... still haven't gotten around to picking this one up yet. I think it may have also come up in the Funny Rat thread, but I'll be damned if I know where--enter the labyrinth at your own risk! Edited January 24, 2005 by ghost of miles Quote
kh1958 Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 I like it myself also. Charlie Hunter sounds alot more interesting than he did a few years ago when I last heard him. Quote
scottb Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 I have this one which available only online. Just Charlie Hunter and Bobby Previte. It is my favorite Hunter to date. Quote
Chrome Posted January 26, 2005 Author Report Posted January 26, 2005 ScottB: How is that? I've been poking around the Rope-a-Dope Web site ... they seem to have a lot of interesting stuff going on. Quote
scottb Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Like I said, it has become my favorite Charlie Hunter. Previte uses some electronica but it works for me. Nice grooves. Other Ropeadope titles which are a must: Antibalas - WHO IS THIS AMERICA THE WORD Go to the download page and listen to the samples. If you like this kinda thing check out DJ Logic and the Philadelphia Experiment Quote
scottb Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 I picked this one up yesterday. Expected the COME IN RED DOG... plus Greg Osby, which would have been very good I think, but this one is nothing like other Hunter I've heard. Much less groove to the music which is hard to imagine as Charlie's music is so groove oriented. Through about track 4 I was contemplating my options for unloading it. The second half of the disc was bit better and maybe the first half will grow on me. I'll give a few more listens. Still prefer COME IN RED DOG THIS IS TANGO LEADER. Quote
Chrome Posted February 3, 2005 Author Report Posted February 3, 2005 Much less groove to the music which is hard to imagine as Charlie's music is so groove oriented. I agree ... and I think I'm going to have to pick up Come In Red Dog! Quote
