clifford_thornton Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Maybe, but her show is amazing. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I will add (again) trumpeter Barbara Donald and altoist/flutist Becky Friend. Barbara was married to Sonny Simmons and a regular bandmate in the later '60s. Becky Friend was Alan Silva's lady in the early '70s and was in some of his groups of the period. Sadly, both quit playing due to health reasons. Quote
Brownian Motion Posted June 18, 2005 Report Posted June 18, 2005 (edited) I just picked up a Herb Ellis date from 1996, "Down Home", which features Rebecca Coupe Franks on trumpet. She's terrific. She has had a spotty career; her 2004 recording, a tribute to her mentor Joe Henderson, was her first recording in nearly a decade. http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=14674 Edited June 18, 2005 by Brownian Motion Quote
Rosco Posted July 9, 2005 Report Posted July 9, 2005 Happened upon this thread earlier... had a quick look and didn't see any mention of Sarah Vaughan! Quote
jazzbo Posted July 9, 2005 Author Report Posted July 9, 2005 (edited) I always love this photo of Billie Holiday because it always reminds me of someone very close to me, Susan Degro. The same sly smile. She has a permanent place in my heart! Edited October 13, 2005 by jazzbo Quote
