l p Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 The two Arista albums, otoh, are emminently ignorable. And ignoble. The music goes beyond being "dumbed down" into being outright dumb. Unequivically. No redeeming qualities whatsoever, not even in production values. Some pitiful shit. there are 2-3 good tunes on the aristas. live 1973 w/santana/mclaughlin are good shows, on which Young gets a lot of solo space. and some of the tw lifetime shows w/young are very good. at the very least, interesting. there are even outtakes from 'love devotion surrender', which are infinitely better than the actual lp. am not into his 60's stuff though. am looking to trade for a dub of mclaughlin 1970 "devotion" with young, rich, miles. offer is open to any kind hearted person. l p Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 and that 'love cry want' thing is not for larry young fans. he's very much in the background on this session. that nicholas guy plays both guitar and keyboards, and pretty much dominates the whole session. young is not playing in his usual fluent style, probably at the request of nicholas, or to fit in with the quarky tunes. overall, there's not much more cacophony than on lifetime's emergency. i'm looking forward to hearing young's last recorded session "Double Exposure" (1977). a duet with joe chambers on piano and drums.
