tonym Posted December 26, 2013 Author Report Posted December 26, 2013 I like that this thread's been resurrected! Sonce I started it my tastes have changed a little and as a result I can add some newer, though nonetheless comfortable, slippers to the pile. One is Marcin Wasilewski's first, 'Trio'. In a similar vein Brad Mehldau's 'Songs' with his first trio. Keep them coming please! T. Quote
ejp626 Posted December 27, 2013 Report Posted December 27, 2013 Probably the jazz that brings back the most memories is Monk on BN and Mingus Ah Um. But they aren't exactly relaxing slipper music in my mind. I think that would be Miles Davis Sketches of Spain. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted December 27, 2013 Report Posted December 27, 2013 Miles Davis "kind of blue" Jackie McLean "destination out" Ralph Towner "solstice" Terje Rypdal "descendre" I think I've played these records the most out of all the ones in my collection so they feel like old comfy slippers whenever I hear them! crisp Posted December 27, 2013 Report Posted December 27, 2013 Ben Webster Meets Oscar Peterson. One of the first jazz CDs I bought, aged 19, as a blind buy because it had Bye Bye Blackbird on it and I already had (and liked) Peterson's second Cole Porter songbook. I remember being pleased that I recognised This Can't Be Love (probably from Round the Horne!). The Touch of Your Lips is probably my favourite track and the version of Wee Small Hours is just perfect. I've bought many many more albums with these artists since but this is the one that always heals and comforts – it's so warm. Quote
sidewinder Posted December 27, 2013 Report Posted December 27, 2013 Listening to Grant Green's 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' today, I realised that it fits ideally into this category for me. Can listen to this one forever ! Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted December 27, 2013 Report Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) Various bits of Sibelius, Mahler, Bruckner, Vaughan Williams, Elgar, Richard Strauss - the classical composers I first explored in the mid-1970s and still have a homing instinct for. mikeweil Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 Hank Mobley - Soul Station Les McCann & Eddie Harris - Swiss Movement These two would be likely candidates for me as well. Lester Young is desert Island stuff, but as I was rather late into Pres in my listening career, his recordings are not old slippers for me. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 Yes, I forgot to put 'Swiss movement' down on my list. MG Quote
