undergroundagent Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Does anyone have an opinion on this massive set? I recently sold much of my collection and decided to get back into jazz slowly by buying box sets from artists that I haven't explored in depth. As such, I thought 16 CDs on Trane (though I've had half of these discs before...) should suffice for a few months. Are the actual CDs in this box the OJC editions with liner notes or is it entirely new packaging? I'm shopping around trying to get the best price possible. Any comments on this set would be greatly appreciated. Quote
JohnS Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 (edited) It's all the Prestige Coltrane music less the Miles Davis Quintets in chronological order. Comes with it's own booklet. Imo it's the best way to own the Prestige Tranes. Edited January 17, 2005 by JohnS Quote
MartyJazz Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 If you're ever possibly considering the Trane Atlantic box set, PM me. I have an extra one for sale and AFAIAC it's just as essential, perhaps more so, than the Prestige box. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 It's different and better (and cheaper in the long run) than buying the single OJC cds included in the set; the remastering is newer and quite nice really. And Marty is right: the Atlantic Trane set is essential. . . . A killer set in its right. Quote
undergroundagent Posted February 18, 2005 Author Report Posted February 18, 2005 I thought I would give a heads up to those interested in this set. The last three have gone for less than $110.00 on Ebay. I just purchased one for $99 SEALED! Get it now. I'm really looking forward to hearing this set and various others I will have purchased in the next few weeks! Heads up Marty! Quote
