DrJ Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Check out some hilarity on an Epinions review (I found this in doing a search on Dewey Redman). Go to the following link... Don to Dewey to Joshua to Chance Then scroll down and read the comments regarding Track 12 of the CD being reviewed. Learn something new every day!!! Quote

bertrand Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Dewey Redman is somewhat related to Don Redman (I forget how, but it's definitely the same family). They are most definitely not father and son Bertrand. Quote

king ubu Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Do they have a replication of this in Odessa, Texas? Oh, and I'm sure they made a remake of the Eisenstein film, right? Quote
JSngry Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 The only time I was in Odessa was to play a Christmas party for an independent oil company. It was held at a health club located on the third floor of an three-stroy office building. Apparently the oil company and the health club had some common owners. Well, we're on our first break, and we're standing by the elevator, waiting to go downstairs and outside for some fresh air and a cigarette, when all of a sudden there's this big rumble. Before anybody can even think about it, a semi-clothed couple come falling through the ceiling! Apparently there was a catwalk above the third floor, and these two had decided to avail themselves of the privacy thereon. They got a little too rowdy, fell off, and BAM, there they were. Problem was, they were both married, but not to each other. Their respective spouses were both at the party, and all four were owners of both the oil company and the health club. The gig was scheduled to run from 9-1. By 11:00, everybody had left. We got paid, though. Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 I assume the two secret lovers were unscathed by the fall? That's a funny story! Quote
JSngry Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Physically unscathed, yes, more or less. However, judging by the vibe in the room over the next hour or so, I'd be loathe to speculate about the extent of any other type of scathing, except to say that I'd hate to have been the scathee. If looks could kill, it would have been mass murder. Quote
maren Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 Dewey Redman is somewhat related to Don Redman (I forget how, but it's definitely the same family). They are most definitely not father and son Bertrand. Here's what Dewey Redman said in a 2003 AAJ interview: “As far as I know I had an uncle, but I can’t prove it, whose name was Don Redman. He was a great bandleader, saxophonist and composer in the 20s and 30s. I never got a chance to meet him. I wasn’t aware that he was my uncle, so to speak, until I saw a picture of him and he looked just like my father. And he was short in stature and my father was short in stature. But he passed a couple years before I came to New York in 1967. The only thing I know is that he looks just like my father. They were born in the same place, Piedmont, West Virginia. So I think there’s a connection there. I can’t prove it, but I think that he’s my uncle.” Quote
