Asked of me at a jazz camp by a kid in beginning improv:

"Can you explain the Maxilydian scale to me again please?"

Then there was the kid at the U of North Texas who was told to transcribe a Bird solo. He came back the following week with one transcribed....unfortunately it was the wrong Bird; It was a Charlie Byrd solo.

Heard asked of a trombone player by a very young kid: "How do you swallow that thing??" (I suppose he thought it was a sword swallowing thing)

Overheard in a record store a few years back...

"Yeah, I'm after some jazz... played on acoustic guitar. With kind of a reggae beat."

The guy behind the counter just looked at him blankly. I often wonder if he ever found anything.

Another strange but true request heard at a record store (a buddy of mine worked there)...

Do you have any CD's with a recording of Blue Suede Shoes, played on solo organ – and played kinda somber? It's for a funeral. What section would that be in?
