Anyone heard of Clarence Profit , a friend said he was a talented player who died young. Played in an advanced swingstyle with stride leanings. I've never heard of him although I did find this...

Jazz Info VOL. I, NO.2 SEPTEMBER 19, 1939 TEN CENTS

NO PROFIT FOR GOODMAN

Clarence Profit, Negro pianist who was expected to play with Benny Goodman, is apparently out. At this writing, it seems certain that Profit will not join the trio. No explanation for the break has been given, though rumors suggest incompatibility as the cause.

Profit is essential, an early modernist, influenced Bud Powell - very advanced pianist -

I'm excited already, ordered the disc through a seller on amazon.de

hope it comes through

The British label Memoir also issued an anthology of Profit track. Looks like the CD is out of print now. That one:

received this disc last week , on the first few listens Profit sounds very like Tatum especially on balads , perhaps a bit more adventurous though. Some tracks have a slight latin or caribean feel. The tracks with a washboard band have their moments too.!! Sound quality is adequate and the disc has nicely written liner notes.

Glad I got it.

A different seller at amazon.de is selling for over 20 euros ( I paid 8) which is quite steep but it's still worth it.
