Tjazz Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Just got the Coleman Hawkins CENTENNIAL COLLECTION (CD/DVD) set. If you're a Pee Wee Russell fan, he's featured on the DVD (playing clarinet). Quote
jazzbo Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Yes, I'll have to get this one day soon. . . ! I've heard the music, but never seen that footage. I really like the Ellington and the Waller in this series as well. Quote
alankin Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 (edited) Yes, this series has turned out to be a lot nicer than I initially thought. I've been listening to the Artie Shaw in the car this week and enjoying the sound quality (and the playing, of course). The bonus video on the DVDs is quite welcome. Haven't seen the Shaw video yet. The Duke Ellington material is very nice. I'll have to look out for the Fats Waller set. Edited January 13, 2005 by alankin Quote

The Duke Ellington material is very nice. I'll have to look out for the Fats Waller set. The Artie Shaw DVD has an interview of him. It might be his most recent? 2001? The Fats Waller set can be purchsed from yourmusic.com for $4.99 (free shipping) Quote
