I have two Japanese mini-LP sleeve CD reissues of Mercury/EmArcy recordings, A Profile of Gerry Mulligan, originally issued on the LP Mercury MG 20453 and reissued on Universal (Japan) CD UCCM-9123, and Mainstream of Jazz, originally issued on the LP EmArcy MG 36101 and reissued on Universal (Japan) CD UCCM-9094.

They're great, but I would prefer a Mosaic set which would hopefully have the material in chronological order.

I think the masters of the Emarcy things have been issued on Lonehill as listed at Dusty Groove A 3-disc set on Fresh Sounds looks to have at least some of the alternates on it, listed at World's Records The alternates are worth looking for - I have them on Japanese vinyls (Mainstream of Jazz Vol 2 and 3).

I don't know how the FS reissue sounds, but the Japanese/Universal remastering is pretty good to my ears. These sessions must have been pretty well-recorded. It's a mystery why Verve has never reissued them in total.

I have heard that the Japanese vinyls with the alternates were issued without Mulligan's permission. Perhaps that is why Verve never issued them. More likely it's just another example of their neglect of their back catalog.
