GA Russell Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 They've been getting a lot of Stan Getz in. I hope the next one is Sweet Rain. That is one of the few LPs that I would buy a CD of. Quote
Quincy Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Yikes! I just had 9 emails informing me of classical titles that are no longer available. Glad I got what I got when the getting was good. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 They canceled 3 from my list as well. Quote

T.D. Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 My bad. I just checked the jazz "New Arrivals" again, and they seem to have yanked all the classical. Honest, I last looked at the page no more than a week ago, and there were a bunch of classical titles, admittedly some schlock, but some fairly reasonable-looking discs, too. Quote

Big Al Posted October 27, 2008 Author Report Posted October 27, 2008 Yeah, I thought that was a particularly strong batch of VO's, IMHO. Gonna be getting a bunch of those: Milt Jackson - Live At The Museum Of Modern Art (Remastered) Stan Getz - Sweet Rain (Remastered) Maynard Ferguson - Octet (Remastered) Ramsey Lewis - Goin' Latin (Remastered) Willie Bobo - Bobo Motion (Remastered) Hugh Masekela - Home Is Where The Music Is (Remastered) John Klemmer - Barefoot Ballet (Remastered) Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Yikes! I just had 9 emails informing me of classical titles that are no longer available. Glad I got what I got when the getting was good. As I said earlier, they canceled 3 classicals in my list. Tonight I searched for those titles on the site and found all of them. I put them in my basket and placed an order. I will report back if they ship. Quote

Searching has always been dicey at yourmusic but it seems to be worse than ever. The Takacs Quartet Schubert: Death And The Maiden did not come up under "composer Schubert" but it did for "artist Takacs." If you don't first succeed... Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 What are the titles? Vladimir Ashkenazy: Rachmaninoff: Preludes Mstislav Rostropovich And Benjamin Britten: Schubert, Schumann, Debussy: Cello Sonatas Régine Crespin: Les Nuits D'Été (+ Ravel: Shéhérazade) Quote
jazzbo Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Jacob Young - Sideways (ECM) Traincha - The Look of Love: Burt Bacharach Songbook (Blue Note) Traincha - Who'll Speak for You: Burt Bacharach Songbook II (Blue Note) Melody Gardot - Worrisome Heart (Verve) Never heard of Traincha or Gardot before, I guess they're the current "next big things" on their respective labels? The Trainchas are pretty nice. I was visiting a cute former coworker of mine and she was playing one of them, and I liked it. It is the Metropole Orchestra after all, nice arrangements, she has a very nice voice, nice interpretation of the songs. I ordered them and am glad I did. Easy listening in a positive sense, dinner music maybe, date music maybe (I'll find out!) Quote

Big Al Posted November 7, 2008 Author Report Posted November 7, 2008 I received three Verve Originals from BMG today: Hugh Masekela - HOME IS WHERE THE MUSIC IS John Klemmer - BAREFOOT BALLET Ramsey Lewis - GOIN' LATIN Every one of them in jewel cases, every one of them with the new Verve Original design on the CD (as opposed to a facsimile of the original record label). I don't know if the digipaks are any different for these, but the information is even more scant than usual. Hell, there isn't ANY player information on the Masekela. Quote

And now it gets even sillier. I received these Verve Originals from BMG today: Maynard Ferguson OCTET (jewel case) Oliver Nelson FANTABULOUS (digipak) Kenny Burrell A NIGHT AT THE VANGUARD (digipak) Quincy Jones QUINTESSENCE (digipak) Willie Bobo BOBO MOTION (jewel case) Stan Getz SWEET RAIN (jewel case) Milt Jackson LIVE AT THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART (jewel case) I guess the March 18, 2008 batch was the last ones BMG got in digipaks. That is one of the reasons I quit the club. To me, these jewel case versions were a big step down in quality. Before, I knew I could always be assured that the only difference was in the barcode. Not any more. And more confusingly, not consistent. Quote
